Why not call them Heroes For Hire instead?

i think The defenders makes for a better series title and fits better with the other titles of the netflix shows.
its unlikely they'll do film team up movies not titled Avengers as thats a brand name for them now. So if they're not going to use it there makes sense to use it for a tv show team up.
anyway, in the comics its a team that changes like the comic book avengers. Luke cage, Iron Fist, and Daredevil have each been members at a time.

I think "Heroes For Hire" will be more of an umbrella term/joke connected loosely to Luke Cage and Alias Investigations (who I suspect Misty Knight will be affiliated with or downright take over while Jessica is busy).

"Need" is just a fiction. As is "should", "must", "value" and "importance".

All these characters show up in the bendis run on daredevil that ends with shadowland
