I think the fact he felt rejected by his parents was part of his attraction to Courtney, not just because she looks a lot like Wendy, but their personalities are quite similar in many ways.

Wendy and Courtney were arguably the first and last nails in Kurt's coffin. The only notably supportive influences in his short life were Tracy and a few loyal family/friends before "Nevermind" stardom (when this documentary gets boring and repetitive). It continues with Wendy and Courtney pretending to honor his legacy (and get tons of royalty money).
