It seems awfully racist to blames whites for slavery.

If I were to go back in time to when slavery was in effect, I would point to the people who owned slaves and say that only they were responsible for slavery. The people who didn't own slaves had nothing to do with it.

To blame all whites for slavery is generalizing, and we all know that generalizing a whole people is racist. For instance, if I were to say "All blacks are criminals", that would be racist, because only those blacks who are committing the crimes are. To say otherwise would be generalizing an entire race, i.e. being racist. Now why would saying "All whites are responsible for slavery" be any different?

The fact of the matter is, while the great majority of blacks today are descended from slaves, only a small minority of whites alive today are descended from slave owners. Most whites today are either immigrants, who moved here from Europe during the 20th century, or their children. Of the rest of the whites, only a small fraction of them had ancestors who ever owned slaves. In the last census taken by the US government the year before the beginning of the Civil War, only 1.4% of whites owned slaves.

Blacks understandably want someone to hate for slavery, but the truth is, the people who they want to hate are long dead. They died 150 years ago. They're all ghosts now. For blacks to transfer their hate to whites living today is not only desperate and misguided, but I would say all-out racist.

Now try that same rationalization with the 100 years of NATIONWIDE Apartheid that followed. By all means, please explain how black attitudes about that period are "racist" as well, "because white participation in that system was negligible too".

So by that rationale, we should view all the wars in middle ages Europe and WWI and WWII as actually sort insane race betrayals of whites against their own people?

Depending on your view point you actually could. Granted I think most of these wars were just people betraying others in almost every sense of the word.

Tell me, give me concrete, statistical data on how white people benefit from slavery today . And you think black people need reparations? Which black people? all of them? Does Oprah need reparations? Do black athletes in the NFL and the NBA? What about all of the black people who are doctors? Lawyers? cops? Judges? Teachers? Politicians? Or is it the only the black people living in poverty that deserve reparations? If they do, what about the white and hispanic people living in poverty? Let me guess, a poor white dude living a trailer park in an economically depressed area with a meth epidemic somehow has a much more privileged life than a poor black dude in the inner city with a crack epidemic simply because of the color of his skin, right?

If you honestly think this is the case, you are broken. Fundamentally broken. Oh, and while I'm here, why is it the whites responsibility to give blacks reparations? It's on the f--king history books, not even 2% of white Americans owned slaves at the height of slavery, yet somehow it's the duty of the white race in America to give handouts to blacks who are as far removed from slavery as whites are?

What about Spain? They were involved in black slavery long before white Americans, but I guess Spanish people aren't the right type of white people to start begging money from. What about the African leaders who SOLD their own people to begin with? How come they aren't held accountable? I love how every time these questions gets asked they are totally ignored. It never fails.

You know what's hilariously ironic? What is one of the most persistent stereotypes about black people? It's that they're lazy. They don't have good word ethic. Yet here are BLM and other activists literally begging for handouts to be given to every black American based on the color of their skin. It's f--king hilarious nobody see's the irony.

I'll give a solid. I agree that people don't give a sh!t about poor black communities. But they also don't give a sh!t about poor white ones either.

FYI there were black business owners and athletes during jim crow. so yes. in my opinion, the best form of reparations for black people with a lot money, should be tax exemption.

Yes, because the vast majority of white people had a slave owning family and inherited millions of dollars from their dead grandparents.

If anyone deserves reparations, it's white people. We pay hundreds of billions for prisons, police, riots, lootings, welfare, obamacare, section 8 housing, affirmative action, etc. and what to we get in return? Nothing but hate.

white reparation is systematic white supremacy. and 70% of that section 8, welfare, foods stamps etc go to whites. affirmative action goes to white women, and other white/non black minorities. whites have no problem riot/looting over sports but when black people do it because they're being murdered by race soldiers, it's suddenly a problem? as for prisons, white commit most violent crime, and drug crimes, but black people fill up half the prisons for non violent drug offenses. no explanation but systematic white supremacy.

the wealth exists in the home and neighborhood you live in.

it exists in the properties and monies your family has in the bank. it's all the stuff that gets passed on to you when someone dies. your inheritances, etc.

it exists in your family's ability to purchase property or expensive possessions that have value.

At first I thought this was another troll thread, but there are legitimate issues with simplifying white vs black and further discussion on reparations for slavery. Who benefited vs not. I work with people who have moved to the US from France, Australia, etc... Some Canadians have moved to the US however in history, Canada was a place of refuge for slaves so they're innocent enough.

However its not just the "white" race that has shifted in the US, many African-Americans are immigrants from the islands like the Bahamas, Jamaica, or other countries. There have been free AAs even during slavery and there were Quakers or families especially in the north who didn't own slaves.

I don't know why people keep asking, it will never happen given the length of time and complexity. If it didn't happen under Obama, it's a lost cause but maybe its like dreaming of the lottery... Some day.

What the heck does any of this have to do with this film? How is a story reviewing history blaming whites? Is a film about 9/11 blaming Muslims for that act of terrorism? Everytime a film about Pearl Harbor comes out, are we blaming the Japanese people? Why are you so freekin paranoid? All of a sudden we can't have films about this particular part of American history? 
