Goof? ... maybe?

Fantastic first episode, but I noticed the Spyder's registration was given as 775 UCC (may have been 755, but the UCC is correct), and year was 1965. In fact, from 1st Jan 1965, the new registration format was compulsory for all new cars in all counties (Wikipedia), so should have ended "C" (eg "UCC 775C"). In addition, "CC" at the time was a Bangor-issued reg. I didn't notice any reference to Bangor or indeed Wales (I assume Bangor Wales as N Ireland has its own format) in the programme. If I'm right (call me a pedant!) I should put it in "goofs", but there doesn't seem to be one for this prog. Comments please - am I dreaming?

Yes, fantastic first episode.
Some wonderful actors in this show. Especially Trevor Eve who I admire greatly and probably what made me so interested in this show is that is a bit like Waking the Dead.
Regarding your number plate comment, I have some admiration for people who can spot goofs in shows like the goof you mentioned.
There hasn't been a show ever made that didn't have some sort of mistake in it, so I have no interest in trying to spot them.
Rather just enjoy the show and I eagerly look forward to more over the coming weeks.

Actually since the car was registered in January 1966 the year letter would have been D (1 January 1966 – 31 December 1966).

There is an added complication: 775 UCC was never issued, whether in 1966 or at any other time: http://www.oldclassiccar.co.uk/registrations/cc.htm says that 0CC was the last group of letters to be issued by Caernarvonshire, implying that PCC, RCC, SCC, TCC, UCC, VCC, WCC, XCC and YCC were never issued.

I would imagine that the producers chose an "impossible" car registration so it couldn't accidentally related to a real car, in the same way that the phone numbers in he diary were 01 946 xxxx which is an "impossible" number which is reserved for film and TV use.

PS: I'm not trying to "out-pedant" you :-)

Nice one! My memory must be going - I thought the reg was quoted as 1965, but the classic car link is interesting. I'll bookmark that site.

I thought they said 1965 as well. And the Spyder is clearly an MGB. I wonder why they had to give it a ficticious name.

Thanks for the support dudes72, but either way, my recollection of 1970s car keys is that they were all FT, FU, series or similar which fitted all makes of cars. I never owned an MGB (sadly!) but drove Fords, Triumph Herald and Vauxhalls back then - all with FT or similar keys. Did the MS (I think it was MS) series actually exist? and if it did, would the police be able to trace a specific car from the 1975/6 key number? I doubt it because keys from that era fitted so many cars, but perhaps somebody knows differently?
