Disappointed with the final episode

personally I thoroughly enjoyed this series until the final episode.

there were so many odd conclusions to the storylines such as the football playing boys suddenly accept the ex-racist back. the vicar not being prosecuted if he paid the money back. the wife killing the young men and her husband buries them both. etc etc

The thing that really jarred with me was Trevor Eves character confessing, I didnt believe that he would give in like that. Also, did he torture the young dead lad or not? I really loved the series, but it did end up a bit messy.

yes, that was another anomaly. it's almost as tho they wanted it to end up 'alright' with karma for all.

weird as it had been very true to life before the last episode.

I am deeply disappointed in the Vicar's story. It seems he's got away with all the crap he did: adultery, underaged sex and theft. Where is the justice?

Norma: Why do crazy people keep gravitating towards me?

You know, I watched the first 5 episodes in one go...up to 3am...then I decided to watch the last episode the next day......
And I have to agree: It all seemed a bit of a flat ending in some respects..but not all.

But I rather think the footballing boys were not responsible for the grafitti on the garage door or the brick through the window...I rather suspect it was that piece of dross that was trying to ccorrupt Curtis & get him to reject whites/education...the TRUE Racist!

As for Bernard Hill's character: The "Priest"...Mmmm In some ways, he seemed to get off "scot-free" but did he? He was obviously torn between his calling & his duty as a father to three girls....But I did not get the money theft bit.....seemed an awful lot of appeasement going on to Jo-Jo financially. That seemed a step too far for me.

As for Clair Slater: That is the crux of the enigma presented: Did she kill them, or was she simply a convenient scapegoat for Eric? That she'd seen things is clear: Is that what triggered her mental illness? Or was her illness the cause of her killing the two men?....The fact that we will "never know" is the beauty of the screenplay I think.
After all, real life is often like that: We will never know the whole truth. We often have to rely on those in a position of trust to at least punish the guilty and not the innocent...it happens as we know: But only the quality of our society can minimise such cases. Otherwise: We are simply doomed as a people.

But overall, a brilliant piece of Television: Well done to all concerned.
