Nicola Walker and River. Spoilers

Have just finished this and River. Nicola playing two different roles and good in both. On the River threads desires for further offerings are being suggested but I suppose that tale is indeed all wrapped up albeit that a lot came out the unexpected blue. Here those fans may well seen Nicola getting more work in an ongoing series. Unlike the many [and well watched by me] other detective tales this looks as though any given series will not have the case solved in a two episode outing. I enjoyed the way the whole tale unfolded and that there were some accidental connections to the victim.

There are it seems loose ends but how often have we seen the bad guys get away with it all. Trevor Eve did front an excellent series where many got caught so long after the event and in the US the series Cold Case itself has run for many entertaining years.

Although we have a Detective Team at work screen time does spend a great deal of time with those who are central to their own stories. Big Guns like Gemma Jones, Tom Courtney, Bernard Hill can not be that easy to attract so it will be interesting to see who has been set up to be the BAD guys in the next outing. Will it have the many side tracks that were on display here?

In a recent now ended series Above Suspicion we were treated to a couple of big names being the guilty parties. It is unfortunate though as like Columbo if you had not seen the actual crime it was so easy to know who the guilty party was with them being the biggest star.

I await this next series with interest and hope it is as good. I have found that except for the car chases and buildings falling down our version of the cop story may well be better than the USA. But that again is due to our acting fraternity enjoying the JOB.

Bit more of Nicola yes.

I first noticed Nicola in a major way, only having seen her before in smaller parts, many years ago in the excellent "Touching Evil" with Robson Green as the law enforcement duo.

The "big star with bit part must be the murderer" is an unfortunate aspect in the history of drama, and is frequently cited in reviews and boards as an age-old rule. It's too bad, because that has spoiled many a good who dunnit otherwise.

Someone pointed out that in this series wih so many major actors of equal stature in the business, it has diffused that obvious feature of many dramas. Ashbourne, Bonnar, Rosie....etc. No clear single big name, but all biggish names.
