It always gets me when people ask why films like this have people speaking English in foreign accents.
It seems obvious to me,a film in Czech or German or both is not going to get a big audience,but English is the world's second language so you make films in English.
Exactly! Its a Czech movie the accent was important. Especially if they want people to believe both actors are Czech. Or this would be foreign movie with subtitles or dubbed.

I have dyslexia, reading is a slower process for me than most. While I do enjoy novels it can be hard to follow the story of a subtitled movie. Do you not find it difficult at all to match a character with their dialogue if you're always reading while they're speaking?

English is the world's FIRST (universal) language, not second. What did you think was first?
shareThe OP was probably referring to the total numbers, i.e. by population, that speak a language. In that sense, Mandarin Chinese is first, English second.
But if by "universal" you mean which language is the most widespread around the world , then English would be first as it's the most prevalent second language in countries where it's not the primary native language.
