Is it a remake or re-imagining?

This has already been done before in 1975 with the film Operation Daybreak http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0075019/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1

So is this a remake of this film or another version of the same story? I only ask as Daybreak is a superior film, well made with some amazing acting and genuinely cold looking locations, without using any CGI.

We shall see, but in the trailer I saw nothing new and hold out not much hope.

It can hardly be a remake when it is based on real events. WWII was not only about Americans fighting in Normandy and it is good to show the world that there were still people fighting behind the Nazi borders.

Quite the non-sequitur as nothing the OP posted remotely implied this is what he/she thinks

Well, this historical event was already adapted numerous times, not only in Operation Daybreak. That was quite OK-ish little film, but it was also strongly romanticized (especially the final massacre in church sequence with seemingly endless supplies of weapons and totally stupid Germans is quite infamous).

Considering the informations we have, Anthropoid seems to be closer to a 1965 Czech film Atentát (1965), which was more historically accurate and more... sober, let´s say. But I don´t think it´s a remake of any of them.

I have never heard of Atentát so I think I might try and track it down and give this a try!

Atentát is on Youtube with English subtitles: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q-lk0aIUtPM

A lot of movies are remade, sometimes better, sometimes the same. Sometimes they are worse and it depends on the spin the people that are making it wants to show. I watch them all and compare them together. Sometimes the newer ones are better because they have details that were not available when the first time the story was told. Ironically there is a 2nd movie coming in about this story this year called HHhH.

ON TCM, I just watched "Hitler's Madman" (1943) which was also a story about the assassination of Heydrich starting with a Czech parachuting into Czechoslavakia to join a patriots' plan to assassinate the "Protector" Heydrich (played by John Carradine). The film's female lead is Patricia Morrison, and it includes a small debut cameo by Ava Gardner. 3 stars
