A breath of fresh air after a crappy summer movie season

After a summer rife with hollow, underwhelming spectacle and downright atrocious filmmaking, Anthropoid is like a breath of fresh air. Here is an adult-driven thriller that works, full of sound and fury and actually signifying something. To hell with mindless “popcorn entertainment” that constantly fails to deliver — Anthropoid is the cure for the common, disappointing summer movie season: http://www.cutprintfilm.com/reviews/anthropoid/

I've previously read/appreciated your Top 100... especially the inclusion of the recent Sing Street!!

It was removed simply because I didn't feel it beat the other films that weren't at the time on my list. It's still a favorite though. I may get it on bluray

Genius was also excellent this summer. Unfortunately it was a limited release and was somehow overlooked. Firth, Law, Kidman, and Linney are outstanding, as is the writing.

Admittedly, I like the works of Thomas Wolfe and I find him fascinating, but for anyone who appreciates literature, and based on your Sound and Fury comment I assume you do, then Genius is necessary viewing.

Remember was also excellent.

Thanks, I have that in my Netflix queue.

I saw Son of Saul a couple of months ago, and now I have seen this movie, so I may leave Remember in the queue just little while longer.

SnappinTurtle: Don't forget it!

Agreed. I think it was released in the summer because of counter programming and not having other stuff out like it, to draw a audience that likes pictures like this. Also they may have hesititated with a fall or winter release because they maybe feared bigger competition from other movies in this wheelhouse. I'm happy they released it because it was intense and well done.

I wouldn't call it a breath of fresh air; that sounds too chipper for such a downbeat film.
