The Ending....

DON'T READ IF YOU HAVEN'T WATCHED THE FILM!!!!

********************************************************************************

The ending of the film IF they ALL died at the end of the film then how did the story get out? Don't know if anyone else thought this so I figured I'd ask.

The Nazi’s kept excellent records in general. They documented the kills inside the church themselves, and the event was very public including putting the corpses on the street for identification just as the movie shows. Like the reprisals in Czech towns, they wanted it all public in order to make a point.

As far as the perspective from the inside church, it would have had to have been reimagined, but it is known that the first killings were in the main part and short period of time passed before they realized where the others were hidden and the second stage began. The movie did a pretty good job of following the known facts, right down to the role of the fire department.

I don’t think the resistance was able to fight back as long or as effectively as the movie implies, but they did better than would be expected given how outnumbered they were.

The allies also tried, convicted, and executed Curda and they somehow knew enough to know that he is the one that betrayed the resistance, so he either gave them details of the operation himself or the German records divulged the details including his involvement. (Curda had actually moved on to spy for the Nazis).

Those behind the plot lived outside Czech. I assume in the UK, and they would have been able to provide background as well.

Yeah I know that but how do they know that it happened the way it happened in the movie? I looked to me, if you want to read my reviews, it's not much but to me it looked like a video game, ya know no arming just blasting away. If they died and the Nazis died then how do they know it went down like that.

they know because the nazis didn't die. Only some of them who were sent in. But ultimately they 'beat' them. As mentioned above the Nazis kept excellent records.

I felt bad for Jamie Dornan character, he was gonna get married ya know and that other dude took the suicide pill AND blew his brains out, double kill. He could have given Jamie the pill so his death would have been a bit more merciful. Yes I only saw the film because Jamie was in it. Shoot me.

Jamie Dornan's character did take the cyanide capsule and shot himself

reply

No the other guy did. He just shot himself, well they didn't show it.

but they did fight back as the movie implied. They were able to hold the Germans off for 6 hours.

To me, the last half hour of the film seemed to take six hours.

reply

They were fighting for 6 hours. So there must happened a lot.

Laduslav Vanek (known as Jindra) survived the war. Most reports say he was caught an co-operated He was really the only one closely associated to the operation that survived. Kurda was never a member if the operation but was part of a separate 3 man team with a separate mission, he wouldn't have known much about Anthropoid but he was at the church and told his story at his trial

Kurda was hung for high treason after he was convicted. He tried to commit suicide in some way, but it didn't work and he was hung.

reply

Yes he was hanged alongside the other parachutist who changed sides and Karl Frank at Pancrac Prison I believe. It seems to be generally accepted that Kurda continued to work as a double agent after the church battle and betrayed even more. I think he originally dropped in with the group "outdistance" (but I'd need to check) charged with assisting the RAF bomb the Skoda works at Pilsen. A job that Antbropoid ended up assisting.
