Season 2 increases the gross-out humor
One of the more appealing aspects of Season 1 was how it handled Ash as a character: the show gave Campbell an excuse to let Ash grow and develop some actual layers beyond being a wise-cracking, bumbling badass. Unfortunately, the show didn’t provide the same opportunity for the rest of the characters. Pablo and Kelly seem stuck in a rut, through no fault of Santiago and DeLorenzo, who both turn in good work episode after episode, particularly DeLorenzo, who brings a certain smug charm to her character. Season 2 finds Pablo suddenly having terrible visions, which might help expand the character a bit, but Kelly continues to be a rather stagnant character in need of some development. Lawless is still very good as Ruby, but she too could benefit from some character improvement. Season 2 also has a great bit of stunt-casting by having Lee Majors, the Six Million Dollar Man himself, play Ash’s dad Brock — a character even more chauvinistic and offensive than Ash is: http://www.cutprintfilm.com/tv/tv-reviews/ash-vs-evil-dead-season-2-review/
