I'm thinking fear might prevent this with him maybe trying to hold on to whatever percentage that he could think the baby his but being a but messed up a bit with the percentage that the baby is not his but I could be wrong
The movie only works if Simon has to "Forever Wonder"...if he has no way of knowing if The baby is his or not
and unfortunately, A simply DNA is the answer, and I do mean SIMPLY ...Simon wouldn't have to tell Robin, it could be a completely secret, hell he doesn't even have to leave his house...All he'd have to do is the next time he sees/visits The baby is take a hair sample send it off to one of the Dozens of DNA labs/sites, wait 6 weeks for the results to come back in the mail.
The Movie and Specifically Gordos Revenge plot would have worked and been Masterful if the movie came out in the early 90s before we knew about DNA.
Your thought on "Fear" is literally the only thing that even makes the movie and Revenge plot "passable"...I too immediately thought of Fear, as soon I realized the movie and revenge plot fall apart with The how easy it is to take a DNA test I thought "well I guess if you really wanted to stretch it and make it work, You could go with Fear, Maybe Simon could be so afraid of the results, so afraid of having it confirmed that its Gondo's baby He'd rather live with NOT KNOWING than actually doing a DNA test and confirming his worst fears"
but even then I still have a problem with it, because then Its by Simons doing and NOT Gordos. Simon is chosing to "NOT KNOW" instead of being forced to "NOT KNOW"
Gordo's revenge plan was to make Simon live with "Forever NOt Knowing" if The baby was Gordo's..to put Simon in a position where he had no choice but to live his life never knowing whats the truth is.
and If we did use the FEAR excuse...then Its no longer about Gordo....Its about Simon, Simon is choosing to Live his life "NOT KNOWING"....
again if it was made in the 90s before DNA, Gordos plan works wonderfully, Simon literally has no Choice but to live his live NOT KNOWING...gordo's plan works
But With DNA, Gordos plan doesn't work, because Simon has 2 options that BOTH ruin Gordoss Plan...get a DNA test Or Chose not to get a DNA out of fear, but again Simon gets to choice this, Simon Picks to "NOT KNOW"..
gordo's plan needed to somehow leave Simon with No choices, No Options,Literally No Other choice but to Live with "NOT KNOWING"
Well, billbrown7071, Gordo's plan didn't have to be some chronic measure of fear levied on top of Simon's conscience.
Even for those six to eight weeks of waiting for the DNA tests to come back, it's still a couple of months of torture for Simon, and still something that may or may not ruin Simon's life. I think that was enough for Gordo given that he didn't seem to want to stick around long enough to find out what became of Simon. It was just enough to instill in Simon that insurmountable sense of dread that Simon had bestowed upon Gordo when he was younger.

Ok I can go with that, If you want to limit it to 6 or 8 weeks, then ya
but when I watch the movie, I get the idea, The writer(Joel) wanted you to think Simon had to "Forever Wonder", Or had to way of ever knowing if the child way his.
again I guess Your 6 to 8 weeks of torture could work, If you really wanted it to...but I just find it kinda weird. Your basically having to really think and Stretch to make The Movie and Plot work.
again, A DNA test Is The Problem here...The movie and Plot is IMO very good, there is just a fatal flaw. If This movie was made in the early 90's before DNA was widely known , This movie and its revenge Plot would have been Masterfully.
But with it being made to today, you literally have to think of Absurd Scenarios to In order to make it work
The DNA Test is just so simply and Obvious, its just a Killer for The movie and Plot., again I guess you can make the movie and Plot work If YOUR REALLY TRY, If you really stretch it, Again FEAR, could work(although I have Problems With that excuse that I've already explained) and I guess your 6 to 8 weeks of torture could work, But again I dont at all believe thats what the writer intended.
Like everyone else, I wasn't expecting the story to turn out the way it did. While the story is good, there are some hard to believe parts in Gordo's carefully laid out plans. This is one of them. If the idea was to get equivalent revenge for Simon not confessing what he did to save Gordo from the fallout of his lie, then I agree that the agonizing wait is only temporary.
The other part that's uncertain is Simon could show Robyn the "gifts" in an attempt to show he's not the bully she thinks he is, or she somehow finds out. That may or may not help help the return of their relationship.
My thinking is Gordo did "it" and that this is his baby. He could tell by the eyes. His revenge is complete in that Simon is left to raise his baby or divorce. I don't think he helped expose Simon to his employer, but I'm not sure. That would further ruin Simon's nice career. Also, was Gordo at one point ready to let bygones be bygones, but he realized Simon would continue being the bully that he is, possibly to Robyn so that's when he decided to get revenge?

Sure, but all that's going to do is emotionally ruin her and make her even more angry at Simon for egging on Gordo and putting her in the mix of it. I mean, all of that happened anyway because of Simon, not Gordo.

Obviously Gordo was willing to let bygones be bygones. He was constantly hanging around waiting for Simon to be repentant, but Simon just brushed him off at every turn, and then went so far to threaten him, even though Simon was the one who ruined Gordo's life. Technically, Gordo was still a lot more humble and forgiving given that he would never have a normal life because of what Simon did.
