Why no air support?

They showed the generals etc talking and a big team on a plane. Then no one comes? They had assets twenty minutes away? Is it becuase the administration was worried about sending combatants to a theatre of war that wasn't supposed to be there ie the Annex?
Even so, it's a major cock-up -- you can just leave your team with no back up. And they have a drone watching the hole thing? They cant scramble a drone with a weapon?
I would've liked to have seen the the defense secretary, Hilary and Obama's conversation. Guess we'll never know the reason.
Opinions?

In the movie it's shown that even the General in charge of USAFRICOM aka The United States Africa Command didn't even know there was a COVERT CIA Annex less than a mile away from the TEMPORARY DIPLOMATIC OUTPOST (not an Embassy or Consulate) in Benghazi!

WOW do some reading of ALL the other threads about why there was no air support! I have no idea where you got the idea that there was "air support" 20 minutes away? The F-16s based at Aviano AFB in Northern Italy couldn't get to Benghazi on a single tank of fuel and would either have to be aerial refuelled or on the ground at NAS Sigonella in which all the refuelling tanker aircraft are usually "prebooked" for long range Cargo aircraft heading to the Middle East not a Quick Reaction Force for the F-16s to Africa. There were ISR Predator drones in the air but they were not armed.

It was a COVERT CIA Annex that had 6 very experienced, very well trained and heavily armed GRS Operators protecting the personnel. There was no prior Intel of a planned, coordinated attack from a Islamic Jihadi militia firstly on the OUTPOST then to the Annex. The OUTPOST for the Ambassador had a bulletproof Safe Haven with DS Agents which unfortunately was not able to sustain a fierce fire lit with diesel.

The GRS Operators wanted to go immediately on the first call for help from the DS Agents protecting the Ambo but were told to stand down for 20-30 minutes. They were not the OUTPOST'S QRF that was up to the Feb 17 Martyr Brigade that fled. GRS didn't know the number of Tangos on site nor what type of weapon systems they had on them and could have been driving into an ambush leaving the CIA Annex completely unprotected and the 25+ CIA personnel.

The GRS Operators ask for a Gunship but there isn't even at the time a AC-130 based in either Europe nor Africa so they were on their own but had the tactical advantage because they had Night Vision, IR Designators on their rifles/machine guns, height on the roofs of the buildings with full fields of fire and cover and concealment up there. Nothing you can do about accurate mortar fire in that situation which killed Rone and Glen.

Even if there was hypothetically a Special Forces unit in NAS Sigonella at the time you don't just send them in immediately on the first distress call until you get further Intelligence of how many enemy you could be coming up against and what type of weapons they have like anti-aircraft missiles or guns, truck mounted Technicals and accurate mortars set up otherwise you're just asking for a greater death toll of US troops!

If you are not willing to give up everything, you have already lost
