Loved it, but I would have opted for a slightly darker ending...
I loved this movie quite a bit. For me, it's a very good 8 out of 10.
... ... ...BUT I almost wish it had a somewhat darker/bleaker ending.
My only somewhat major complaint about the film is that I can’t help but feel they played it a bit too “safe” with the ending, especially in setting up Rocky as a sort-of classic “final girl.” It’s very easy to forget that she isn’t necessarily all that honorable. She’s a criminal who has had a history of burglaries, and noble though her intentions might be, she’s not without her own sins. (Not that she's a bad person... she's clearly a good person who has gone off the path due to the circumstances of her life.)
So it bugged me slightly that she got off essentially scot-free (outside of being terrorized) while everyone else was killed.
I think the film should have ended with her getting captured and informed she was going to carry the Old Man’s child, then cut forth nine months to her being released (implied to have given birth)... perhaps the Old Man gives her half the money as a twisted “thank you", and THEN she flees to California with her sister. It would have accomplished the same sort-of happy ending in a way, while still having had her receive an ultimate form of punishment for her prior crimes, solidifying the film as more of a cautionary tale.
And FURTHERMORE, this is my signature! SERIOUSLY! Did you think I was still talking about my point?
