How the f#ck did the dog get in the house

Did I miss something, but how was it that no one could escape the house, yet the dog which was fast asleep outside and locked out, manages to get into the house?

Maybe a doggie door that was just big enough for the dog, but too small for humans.
But overall the film has many flaws. It's a solid 3/10

I figured the blind owner let the dog in when he was outside waiting to shoot when they tried coming out of the basement through the storm shelter doors.
