Reaction of females in your theater to the big reveal?

I saw this film in a theater with about 30 other people. Even split between men and women, it seemed.

When Rocky woke up in the restraints, I was distracted by two teenage girls running out of the theater as fast their legs could carry them. That's odd, I thought, the movie isn't over yet!

Then the big reveal happened. The way it was drawn out slightly was genius directing. When the audience realized what The Blind Man's intentions were, every guy was quiet but it seemed all the women were gasping and saying "Oh my God!" Now, in horror movies, usually there are "nervous titters" from the audience when a scary/disturbing scene happens.
Not this time. It was pure shock.

In fact, two girls sitting behind me who didn't make a peep during the gore/jump scares were almost screaming and softly saying "Oh my Godddd, nooooo!" as Lang walked toward Rocky with the Turkey Baster in his hand.

Just wondering if anyone else had a similar experience from female audience members or your dates or whatever.

Lots of laughing along with eeewws from the females in my theater.

I started crying during that scene but that is because I am a survivor of long term sexual abuse. In my theatre though, most of the women seemed very disturbed and most of the men thought it was clever.

Sorry about what you went through.

I one wrote a comment detailing when a girl I dormed with screamed curses at a washing machine that was broken, and the way I described it must've been very well-written, since a guy responded that he shuddered as he read it because it gave him flashbacks of his crazy ex screaming at him.

I have to remember that "trigger words" are a real thing. I'm a Gen-Xer, so we didn't have stuff like that in my day. Everyone just spoke their minds.

Sorry again.

Or maybe let people deal with their own psychological issues. While we can be mindful of others, everyone can't always be 'PC' and trigger words do happen. Whatever. Everyone should speak their mind... and if little miss daisy or the douche nozzle with the bitch wife can't handle it, then they can go seek help or lock themselves in an empty room.

Most of the men thought it was clever?

Huh? WTF is that supposed to mean? Did you poll every guy and MOST guys were like, "Oh yes... if I was going to kidnap a woman and wanted a baby, this was by far the most practical" as they puffed their pipes and adjusted their monocle?

*beep* off you.

I tought it was clever as a plot twist, not that the blind guy was clever for what he did.

As a woman, I can say that this was easily the most horrifying part of the film for me. Not only was Rocky in danger of getting raped, but the guy's talk about how he "wasn't a rapist", that he'd let her go in nine months, and that she ultimately brought this upon herself... that's frankly terrifying. Especially since there was this "it has to be you" gist to everything, since he saw Rocky as responsible for the death of the woman who killed his daughter and the unborn child within her. So basically Rocky and her friends were responsible for taking his child away from him again and he saw his actions as a completely justified act of penance on her part.

Add on to this that her sister would be alone with her abusive mother and her boyfriend and that made it one of the worst scenes for me. I just about twisted my boyfriend's arm off while watching this, because it got me so much.

One of my friends (male) was extremely disgusted and kept making disgusted faces/sounds while covering his mouth (he tends to be very squeamish in general though), and my other friend (also male) kept saying "Oh my god!". I'm female but my reaction was kind of mixed because I have a very unfortunate "paraphilia", so half of me was grossed out and the other half wasn't. So I don't think my input counts here. All three of us were relieved that Alex was still alive though.

I don't really know how the other males and females in our theater reacted. There were a bunch of kids behind us being loud and irritating, so that's most of what we kept hearing throughout the movie from the audience. It did sound like they were grossed out during that scene too, though.

What's your paraphilia?
