I agree, modern audiences are too obsessed with "logic". They don't realize that films (and art in general) aren't meant to be rooted in logic. What you see on screen is not "literal". A lot of horror films should be viewed more as bad dreams or nightmares, not actual things that could be happening.
Don't Breathe has been working out pretty well out. It starts off with minimal gore or blood, lots of tension, very nicely filmed, before transforming into high octane shlock for the final reel. And despite that, it's making a killing at the box office, also playing well with critics and most audiences. I hope the studios take note and give us some more, truly hard R horror films.
