Ridiculous.. They show us that both windows were barred and they're trapped in there. Then, literally 20 seconds later the dog comes in and Alex falls backward through the window as if it were made of Saran wrap. Let's just say hypothetically that he jumped back with enough force to break the bars off (no way in hell) The bars would have fallen down and broken the skylight glass beneath, which didn't happen either.. So stupid.

Are you kidding me? He was literally checking all the windows to try to escape that room, frantically shaking the bars on the windows. I mean, a dog was after him.
How could he completely miss the big-ass window (big enough for a grown man to fall backward through) without bars right in front of the door?
Your response is almost more absurd than what actually happened in the movie.
That's what I was thinking, too. Just stupid. But not as stupid as Alex getting stabbed in the belly by the blind man with a pair of scissors and then getting up a few minutes later

It's made extremely obvious when you see Alex getting up, gotta say.
Its puppy power! Alex actually gets slammed through the window above the storm porch or whatever you call them. Probably the blind guy felt the flimsy porch couldn't take the weight of anyone so didn't feel the need to put the bars into that window? But being a skilled hero his D.I.Y ability was far above regular folk.
