Can Someone Explain The Hate for Rocky

I don't see it. Yeah, she's a thief. But the way I see people talking about her on here, it's like she's the worst person ever. She's a victim of abuse. And now her little sister is also being abused. You don't know the desperation an abuse victim feels. To her, the robbery is a saving grace, finally a way out. Is it right? No. But she is young and alone and doesn't see any other way out. This is her ticket to save herself, but also save her little sister.

It was wrong to rob the man, yes. But this doesn't make her inherently a bad person or an evil person. She didn't want to cause harm to anyone, and only harmed the man when he started hunting them like animals and in self defense. She tried to rob him. He tried to kill her. There is a big difference there. I just don't see why everyone is making her out to be the bad person here. When you look at motives:

Alex (that's his name, right?): Wanted her attention/love/etc.
Money: Wanted money for the sake of money
Rocky: Wanted to save her sister
Old Man: Wanted retribution

I just don't see how out of everyone, Rocky is seen as the evil one.

I dont understand the hate either...If you wanna escape an abused home as fast as you can, you do take shortcuts and Rockys shortcut wasnt right but I understand why she took it and Alex was in love with her and did everything she asked...but he really never wanted to do any of the crimes...Money was the only real criminal of the three and Rocky needed him to sell all the stolen goods.

I don't understand the hate for her either. People just want to be trolls and hate on someone. But, why was Rocky with a guy like Money? Maybe, because she likes bad boys. But, then again she didn't care when Money was killed.

Rocky is not a tragic "stealing bread to feed her starving family" woman...so NO SYMPATHY for her. She waltzes around, lies down on beds while robbing house, and looks like she's having major sexual thrills it and acts like this is a cool job. She's a thief. Let's be clear. A thief--- she planned and participated in:

1) Breaking an entering with intend to rob
2) Accessory to an armed-robbery attempt
3) Assault
4) Attempted murder
and more

reply

Sexual thrills? Really? Quite a leap. Maybe she is waltzing around and laying on the bed because she is dreaming of a life outside her *beep* hole. I didn't take it as an "in your face" sort of thing. Just like she was dreaming of what might be. When was she saying it was a really cool job? Must have missed that part. Planned to participate in murder? Ok, now I know you are not being serious.

Rocky was a good girl. She did wrong for all the right reasons. Family first. She made a promise to her little sister that she would get her out of that home and she kept it. Any little sister would be proud to have a big sister like Rocky. Life's a knife fight bring guns. I thought her little sister was her daughter and she was a single mom.

She was a lazy, greedy bitch who broke into a blind man's home to take his money. And when she saw that there was a much larger situation going on, her greed still superseded her common sense. She should have listened to Alex and hit the alarm when they were in the basement. But she just has to take this guy's money. I hated her, and I hate that she got away w/that money. The movie should have ended w/the dog mauling her to death.

If she wanted to leave her life, just go! Plenty of ppl make new starts for themselves w/little to no money. Why did she deserve his money? She didn't. I cannot stand thieves. I pretty much hated all the robbers and wanted them all dead!

I say it again so that you carjones51 could understand how different people act and think when they are in a dire situation...If you wanna escape an abused home as fast as you can, you do take shortcuts and Rockys shortcut wasnt right but I understand why she took it and Alex was in love with her and did everything she asked...but he really never wanted to do any of the crimes...Money was the only real criminal of the three and Rocky needed him to sell all the stolen goods.

She's an idiot. She complains about money yet blows all hers away on cigarettes and tattoos. Get off your @$$, get a real job, and stop robbing other people who worked for their money.

This is a tricky one. As someone said on another thread this film is a good way of showing how different actions can have dire consequences. IMO they all did wrong. However as anyone who lives with domestic violence can tell you, they want to get out of it as fast as possible and maybe getting a nine to five wouldnt have helped them in time. The abuse could have grown worse, maybe even resulted in someone being killed. But it was silly of her to spend money on tattoos and stuff on top of it, and defo wrong to break into someone's home armed and dangerous and you have a right to defend yourself and safety. Yet the blind man was just as bad for kidnapping Cindy, and the way he killed them and hunted them down the way he did. All these characters were flawed and very nasty person could see justification in Rocky's actions, or if they had an experience like the old man's and are very sick even understand his motives. Its all about everyone's perceptions of what is truly evil and they vary. What is bad for one person may seem better to another. Two wrongs and all that, so yeah, my two eggs

The Ignore Button. Kills trolls dead. ;)

I can see why some people wouldn't like her because she did something illegal. But outright hating her and wanting to see her not survive? That's just being sick people

reply

Rocky is her kid sister's Hero. I thought Rocky was a single mom and that was her daughter. I was hoping for Alex to survive and be with Rocky and daughter. The Director should of made Rocky a single mom.

Yes. Rocky had the best of Intentions from the start.
