"There is nothing a man cannot do once he accepts [...] there is no God"

That's nonsense.
There is no moral justification for what he did without a god, and no, two wrongs don't make a right.

It really should be: "There's nothing a man cannot do once he accepts the fact that God will forgive him."
Yup, Christian "morality" is corrupt like that ... but that's not surprising given the fact that this god also condoned owning human beings as property, committed or commanded genocide, infanticide, ethnic cleansing, taking virgins as war booty ..

The blind guy had a very nihilistic view of the world. His statement means that he doesnt believe in God and doesnt believe in supernatural punishment for his actions after death. He was certainly religious earlier in life, but gave it up after he lost his vision and his daughter, and his wife, whoever she was.

You can refute his statement pretty easily, regardless of whether or not you believe in God. If the blind guy truly believes he can do anything, whats stopping him from going into town and shooting people in public? Nothing, according to him, but he certainly isnt going to do that. If you want to have an enjoyable life, you have to play nice by society's rules, or at least publicly pretend to. God isnt stopping him from making a lot of bad life decisions, but common sense certainly is.
