I'm a little disturbed by people who say they have no sympathy for the

thieves.

Granted, the thieves are terrible people and they deserved to be arrested and put in jail for awhile.

But just because you break into someone's house doesn't mean they're allowed to trap you in the house and hunt you down like an animal. That goes way beyond defending yourself and your home and into the homicidal maniac territory.

Do you prefer to root for kidnapping rapists that inpregnate women and then kill others to cover the secret?

Do you prefer to root for child murderers and child murderer sympathisers?

I don't care about a troll who doesn't pay for his opinion telling me how to review movies.

reply

People actually sympathise with thieves who break into a disabled war veterans house to steal his money that was from a settlement of his dead daughter? Wow

He lived in a run down empty street with no one else around, why would it be a smart thing to let them run away if he had no idea if they could come back at any time to kill him?

reply

... they were poorly written, stereotypical characters.

The key to making characters who do illogical and/or contemptible things likable is to write them well, give us a window into their motivation, psychology and history.

The bad mom who talks about blow job with a nazi boyfriend was too over the top and right out of a high school play to draw people in.

This was a movie with badly written protagonists played by awful actors, doing stupid things.

It's easier to root for a villain, even a goofy one, when the protagonists suck. Especially when said villain is played by Lang.

My husband just recently took a CCW class to get his permit. A big part of it was when you can and cannot shoot. If you attempt to shoot anyone that is fleeing that is a big no-no and you can be prosecuted if they end up getting shot in the back while running away. This guy being blind, should have never had a gun in the first place. Not sticking up for scum criminals, but you have to know the laws when owning weapons.

I remember a case a while back where a man was on trial for shooting two teenagers, a male and female trying to get out of his house after he locked it up to keep them in until the police arrived.

So he should just let criminals who have broken into his home, threatened is life, and stolen his money...he should just let them walk around his house, with his money, and weapons...doing as they please?

They were able to come and go, they might come back, but they are not coming back with that money! They drugged his dog, for all he knew they had were going to drug/kill him. They brought a loaded weapon to his house okay? You think the kids took a CCW class? So much empathy for those that thought they could get away with intimidating and threatening an old and disabled veteran who also lost his daughter.

How does he know how many of them there are, he doesn't! For all he knows more could show up, he is a man of war, of strategy. You don't chase the prey, you get them to come to you. He should not be punished for using superior skills to stop the house invaders from killing him.

He doesn't know their backstory, all he knows is they could kill him at any moment, he cannot even see them or the weapons they might have, weapons like crowbars and guns. But he doesn't know, so he goes full Rambo on them.

No, he stopped them so they didn't disappear with his money and so they couldn't kill him. They said they would kill him if he did not cooperate; he owes them nothing. Once someone tries to kill you an steal all of your money you have every right to kill that mofo. Most jury's would side with the blind man, now the girl in the basement, thats a completely different case.

You wanna talk real stories? Someone started a fight at my house, cops harassed me, later he came back and robbed my house a few times, cops just kept harassing me, they love hassling poor & disabled people, especially when you have a strange name, or a eastern-European nose, they love it...nope, no help, just wanted to come in to look around my house and plant evidence...he came back again while I was sleeping, tried to burn my house down with me in it, my roommates were all asleep, some other friends, and two girls who stayed the night in my bed cause thats how I rolled back then. I jumped out of bed naked, grabbed my trusty baseball bat (later dubbed the Peacemaker), kicked open my door, saw him standing there in the living room with a gas can and my old massive flame lighter that he also stole from me, flames and smoke were rising and I needed to stop it right away, so I ran at him, swung as hard as I could and broke his f-ing arm in two...and I am generally a man of peace, call me a peaceful warrior if that seems more fitting. I prefer to get along with everyone if possible. But screw the useless police and the law, when someone tries to kill you and or your kin, you take action or you are letting them decide who lives.

That same bastard came back, he was much larger then me BTW, but again, I don't take *beep* I don't care who you are or how large, the bigger they are the larger an area for my fist to connect with their face. He sped at me in his car and attempted to run me over, he just kept coming back for more. I pushed my friend out of the way and just stood there, I knew he didn't have the balls to run me down in public and during the day, but either way, at this rate he wasn't stopping without more motivation. He slammed on the breaks and came to a halt sheer inches from me. I stared him down so hard, he knew he was screwed. I pulled him out of his car and beat him so hard with the various things I found in the back of his car, I never saw him again. I don't regret dealing with it once and for all, it was him or me.

What was I supposed to do, ask him to wait for the police? I'd already been in situations where even when someone asked for the police none were called or bothered to show. What would they do? Those same corrupt police that never help the poor in the first place? The same police that refused to help me many other times? The same police that refused to do anything when someone tried to kill my mother, my unborn sister, and five year old me, they said we were all a bunch of junkies so we probably deserved it, the police, thats their attitude and this was in Santa Barbara for Christs sake, for those not in the know, thats one of the richest cities our country has, period. I've seen the Coast Guard sneaking Haitians into the country with the aid of the Mafia and local police, I've seen cops using, selling, stealing, & purchasing various drugs and firearms. Whats that kind of mentality going to do for the average poor person? Nothing. Its always easy to spot privileged people when they think a criminal will just come in, take their money, and everything then goes back to hunky-dory, because you can just drive to the bank and get more money, or that the cops will give a damn and/or retrieve the stolen items.
