When he locked the doors, the man tought he was alone because he had killed (in self-defense) the man who told him was his only threat.
Then, he discovered there were more people in the house, and there was no way he could now how many of them were, or if any of them was pointing a gun at him at any moment.
The girl had a couple of chances to leave the house after that, but she didn't and stole the money instead.
And for the kidnapped girl, she deserved what happenned to her if she actually killed his daughter on purpose.

Yeah, I agree that they definitely deserved a punishment. Sure we saw that at least Rocky had a somewhat moral reason behind the robberies, ie, saving her sister from her alcoholic mother. But that doesn't forgive it; we can't justify breaking the law because we're in a tough situation.
However, they clearly didn't deserve what he did. There was also a short-haired blonde person (looked like a guy) dead in the blind man's laundry room - who was he? Why had he been killed? Are people going to defend the blind man killing yet another person by saying he probably broke in too? We don't know that, he might have been innocent or whatever. And even if he broke in too, breaking into a home is not and should not be a death sentence. Obviously the blind man didn't kill them because of self-defense, I thought that because painfully obvious when we discovered the girl in his basement. He couldn't let anyone out of his house because he had someone chained up downstairs. He was most likely saving his money to look after and care for his new child (his house was a wreck, don't think he was intending to bring a child into it, but rather he was most likely intending to fix it up or move and disappear off the map so that the girl he forced to give birth to hid kid couldn't rat him out) and couldn't allow anyone to leave with it. And if it was stolen he couldn't call the police because of kidnapping someone himself. He had to kill them to keep his secret secure and his money secure. That's not self-defense.
And even if it was pure self-defense that goes out the window when you lock people in in order to take them out one by one and especially considering what he was planning to do with the girl. She was only knocked about so he could get her pregnant with his child too. How can anyone try to justify that as self-defense?!

We don't know exactly what happened, and while I can agree that maybe she got away too easily because her family had money - being kidnapped, held captive, being forced to go through a 40 week pregnancy, give birth to a child, and then have it taken from you as you're thrown out as trash, is NOT an adequate punishment!
