Granted, the thieves are terrible people and they deserved to be arrested and put in jail for awhile.
But just because you break into someone's house doesn't mean they're allowed to trap you in the house and hunt you down like an animal. That goes way beyond defending yourself and your home and into the homicidal maniac territory.
The Blind Man was never going to let them go. He couldn't. That wasn't clear to us at the time he locked his house down, but it became clear the minute we saw what he was hiding in his basement.
I mean, this is a guy who has a custom made acid tub hidden under the floor to melt corpses. He didn't seem like he was in the business of letting guests -- invited or not -- leave the house.
If he let anyone go, he ran the risk of the authorities getting involved. That would have been it for his captured girl, his gestating baby and his stash of cash.
Self defence doesn't mean trapping everyone inside hunting them one by one. That's not self defence, that's homicide.
Like poster above said he had no intention of letting them go but every intention of killing the boys and keeping the girl captive to be his baby mama?

Old Blind Guy may have been trying to get revenge (she took his daughter's life, so she was going to give him a new daughter) and it may have been rape with a turkey baster (ok fine if you want to be technical it was a sexual assault with a turkey baster but close enough)
Then with Rocky he was first going to turkey baster a new baby but later he decided he wasn't going to take chances and actually rape her in the attempt to impregnate her so by your own omission Old Blind Guy deserves to die/gets what he deserves (or rather less than because he's not dead).

What I found interesting is that my loyalties shifted throughout. The home invaders either said or did stuff that pissed me off at points in the movie. But the Blind Man was truly a brutal human being, so I had to root for the invaders in the end.

To be fair, he didn't trap them and hunt them down until he discovered his money was stolen. But yeah, much like real people, neither party were perfect protagonists or antagonists.
I hope everyone here has heard of the literary classic "Crime and Punishment". It's called that for a reason. It's not called Crime and Getting Away With It, or Crime and Don't Worry the Hippies will be Sure You're Treated Fairly. If you are generally a "bad" person, and decide to premeditate a robbery of a blind man, and he gets the better of you, well, you gambled and lost, friend! Do you deserve a trial by your peers? You betcha. Does the blind man deserve to believe that he has the right to protect himself in his own home? He sure does. I haven't seen the movie yet, but I have a feeling I know who I'll be rooting for.

Funny. Have you actually read Crime and Punishment? Because the punishment in that book is one of a person being tortured by the guilt of what he has done and paranoia of him not being caught. It has nothing to do with this movie.
