Were we supposed to pull for the thieves?

I wanted him to kill them all, especially the girl. I was supposed to be pulling for her to get away? Ridiculous. She's a lazy idiot who doesn't want a job and just wants to steal someone else's money and I'm supposed to hope she gets away? Dumb.

If you wanna escape an abused home as fast as you can, you do take shortcuts and Rockys shortcut wasnt right but I understand why she took it and Alex was in love with her and did everything she asked...but he really never wanted to do any of the crimes...Money was the only real criminal of the three and Rocky needed him to sell all the stolen goods.

reply

Me too!! I just finished watching this and am beyond outraged by the ending! I can't believe they let her get away w/stealing his money. Yeah . . . he was doing some shady stuff, but that's why you don't break into other people's homes and steal their money!

reply

No one in the film was above judgement, that's pretty much the point of it. Old guy literally gets away with murder, kidnap and rape by essentially paying rocky off with the money he himself was paid off with...meanwhile, she gets away with robbery. I'd say the aim was more to leave the audience conflicted than anything else.

Would you prefer pulling for kidnapper, a rapist and a murderer?

reply

Exactly. I don't think a thief should be killed, if caught they should have to pay back, owe, jail time, etc. But should I think a kidnapper and rapist should be killed? Absolutely! If I were in the rapist victim's shoes I would want my perpetrator to feel how I would feel, wanting to die.

reply

Well Rocky was responsible for kidnapping. I mean she didn't have custody of her little sister so according to the law, she kidnapped her sister. So do you want her to die too?

I agree. I wanted the three of them to die horribly.

I voted for the all of them to die except for the woman chained up in the basement.

reply

She got drunk a killed a small child. I wanted her to die most of all.

reply

Oh, yes, the young woman who stole money through non-violent methods deserved to die!!!

reply

She was trying to rob an old, blind man, who had lost his daughter in an accident, so I can't really feel sorry for her. She seemed perfectly helathy, so if she needed money, she should have WORKED for it, instead of breaking into someone else's house and stealing. True, the old man ended up being a psycho, but she didn't know that.

I hope you get robbed today.

I hope you get robbed today.

Fúck you.

reply

Fúck you.

Now I hope they rob you AND make you swallow your own semen, like that mean girl did with the old man in the movie.

Lol "non violent methods"? you gotta be kidding. Since when is breaking into a house, with a gun (it doesn't matter that it wasn't her who was holding it) is non violent?.

reply

She didn't know about the gun. It's non-violent if they went sneaking in without trying to hold anyone hostage.

reply

It's not the she was "too lazy" to get a job and earn money herself (she actually had a job along with stealing from other people, but she wasn't making enough to get two tickets to California since her mother kept taking her money for things). She was simply trying to find the quickest way to get enough money in order to get her and her little sister away from their abusive household.

reply

So that makes it okay? Would you have the same sympathy for someone who breaks into your home, terrorizes you, and steals your hard earned stuff just b/c they have some sob story about being abused?!?! I doubt it.

Having an abusive mom does not excuse burglary. Rocky could have gotten herself a job or just ran away w/her sister. She gets no pass for me. A lot of ppl have hard lives, and they don't go around robbing ppl and breaking into homes.

reply

If you want all movies to have simple moral lessons, you might want to stick to TV. One of the purposes of a movie like this is to show moral ambiguity. We get to see sympathetic sides of Alex and Rocky while seeing a vicious and evil side of the old blind man. No, that doesn't make burglary "right". But the burglary doesn't make kidnapping right, either. Or multiple murders. Lots of viewers will still have sympathy for one or another of the characters.

reply

I was pulling for the war vet even though he kidnapped a girl. He just wanted justice done his way.

reply

Yeah, because brutally murdering 3 foolish youths who just wanted some green papers is justice.

And don't waste time reading this line, it's just my pointless signature.
