Season 2 Ep 10 - Take the Shot....how did they forget?

at one point when they were discussing the virus, Two and Five started wondering why the android may have used the chip so much as to say "maybe it was for a mission" (paraphrased)

I have a strange feeling I missed something somewhere but why would they question that? how did they forget?

Well, I believe they may be talking about the original empathy enhancements Portia made before they were all mind-wiped, not the human simulation upgrade given to the android by another android.
