Canada makes the best smallscreen Sci-Fi now

Outside of the superhero stuff, the stuff being made in the U.S. has become subpar and the UK stuff is downright boring.

reply

Prometheus, Interstellar, The Martian, Ex-Machina, Transcendence, were boring British Sci-Fi, and Dark Matter schools them?

Ooookay O_o

Dark Matter is just OK, but it's not even as good as Firefly which benchmarked gritty sci-fi series.

reply

The OP is referring to small screen aka television, not movies. Vast difference

reply

Yes, and besides Interstellar was a piece of crap. I cannot believe the ratings people give that sludge.

But Canada has produced a lot of really good TV and not just sci-fi

What Firefly had over Dark Matter is the lingo. Everything else is comparatively equivalent. And instead of space stations, Firefly flew to pioneer towns far, far away from civilization.

reply

Just no... I mean... no. Don't compare this to Firefly. I like Dark Matter, but please, be realistic here.

reply

You're right we shouldn't compare. Dark Matter managed to get renewed twice.

Firefly had a lot more humor

reply

Dark Matter has plenty of humor.

I like Firefly, but it is not incomparable.

As far as lingo goes, throwing in a few Chinese words never did much for me.

reply

Over a decade of Stargate SG1 is enough to prove Canada's abilities .

reply

What UK stuff? (apart from Doctor Who?)

Misfits
Humans
The Aliens
Dark Mirror
Life on Mars
Ashes to Ashes
Primeval

reply

Shame on all of you. I've not seen one mention of Orphan Black; and it's by far one of the best sci-fi shows on television period, let alone merely a Canadian-based production.

Just a theory, but worth pointing out, nonetheless.

reply

Those shows lack spaceships. At some point science fiction on television got small. Shows stopped having a multitude of ideas and began to focus on one thing. Humans was about synthetic humans. Primeval was about time travel. Canada's one of the few places that still make ridiculous Star Trek type shows.

reply

I'll give you primeval as sci-fi but misfits?

Is the avengers Sci-fi to you?

I've never heard of The Aliens so I'll investigate that

Humans is a remake of a Scandinavian show

Dark mirror is great
As is LoM and AtA

(not that you commented on how boring they were just supplied a list I don't overly agree with)

Red Dwarf should be on that list more than any of those!

You posted this on the wrong board, didn't you? You can't be talking about this season's "Dark Matter" and good TV.
