Weapons designs
Is it just me or does 'em weapon designs (besides coloration) - from pistol to e-rifles, remind me of weapons from the Borderlands games; specifically Hyperion, Maliwan and, Tediores?

I'm seeing why you feel this way... but I'm also seeing sci-fi weapon fashion influences from many other sources, from Mass Effect to Starship Troopers, right back to Original BSG.
I suspect many recent ones drew on their same forebears for such design ideas.
