Well they did set it up well at the end of S3:

The whole "world has ended" problem has gone , society is reset to default settings and the "big fish" have shown themselves.
Elliot has sworn to target them , and is now friends ( and comrades-in-arms ) with his imaginary Dad again so they can set off on a whaling trip together and do some bonding.
