Anyone thinks they should have cast someone else as Pepper Pots ?

When I see the movies I do think she does fit and has pretty good chemistry with RDJ but when I go into my guilty pleasure of Fan fiction and read stories with them as a couple for some reason I stop liking Pepper.

And I’ve been thinking if it’s because of the actress, maybe casting someone younger with more warmth.

I’m not thinking about casting a bombshell but maybe Reese Witherspoon or Rachel McAdams whom i liked with Robert a lot in Sherlock Holmes.

She did pretty well, but Amy Adams would have been great too. And I think Rachel McAdams is a doll.

Amy Adams would have fitted him pretty well or her almost clone Isla Fisher. Actually Isla with her comedic timing would have been even better than Amy.

And yes Rachel McAdams is lovley. Funny I latter knew she was considered but she said no and well latter became Dr Strange love interest

maybe Jessica Alba ?

Paltrow was fine in the role, no need to recast. She went from being super-efficient and impersonal to having excellent chemistry with Downey, you could believe she really did love this exasperating man in spite of everything. Which took more acting than you'd think.

I suppose some people would like someone with a sweeter and more vulnerable personality, but the fact is, a sweet and vulnerable person would be a poor match for Downey's Stark. You'd always be afraid he'd really hurt a sweet woman, while Paltrow's Pepper seemed like she could cope with absolutely anything.

reply

You make a great point here, Downey’s Stark needed someone who would sometimes put him in check and tell him no once in a while.

reply

Not to mention Stark needed someone who wouldn't freak out when her house was blown up, she was stuck running a Fortune 500 company with no training, has superpowers forced on her, etc.

Face it, a person who can deal with that sort of shit isn't going to be kittenish and bubbly.

reply

Yes you are so right, a nicer looking Pepper wouldn’t have fit with Tony. He needed someone who looked stronger.

Now what about Blake lively maybe looks a little young for RDJ but she does seem to have strength to deal with Tony but also seems to have the sweetness of maybe someone like Reese Witherspoon

reply

I dont think looks would matter all that much to Tony, by the time he became a duperhero I'm sure he'd broken up with enough stunners to realize that looks alone weren't enough. Not that he'd ever date an unattractive woman, though, he would take above-average looks for granted.

No, if a man like Stark ever settled down, itd be with a woman who is attractive and intelligent... and who could put up with his shit. Paltrow nailed that.

It's funny. About a year ago I bought this Iron Man DVD ROM Marvel released of his comics years ago. It has every 616 Iron Man comic from his first comic in the early 60s to June of 2004. I started reading them and read the first appearance of Happy and Pepper. Pepper hated Tony in that first comic. Though unlike the movies Tony never revealed he was Iron Man to anyone but Happy in the 1960s comics. But she did come to love him eventually in the comics from what I have been told by fans. Though I am now on the year 1967. So he hasn't been able to get with her yet. From what I looked up he doesn't make his secret identity known to the public til the mid 90s.

Also the bad guy of Iron Man 2, Ivan Vanko, is very different in the comics. His parents weren't killed in an incident involving Tony's parents. He also was only a villain in his first appearance. He was just a lacky of some Chinese communists. What can I say? It was the 1960s. They give him an Iron Man like suit of armor. And Iron Man fights him andthen tricks him by using a device to impersonate his boss. He makes Ivan think his boss is going to kill him when he returns. Which makes him surrender and he rats out his communist leaders to the U.S government agencies. He also ends up working in one of Tony Stark's factories.

And I spoiled myself of surprise by looking him up on Marvel wikia. In a comic from the early 70s he ends up sacrificing himself to save Tony Stark from some villains who attack the factory he works in. So not only is he not a big villain in the comics, but he is a martyer who sacrifices his life to save Tony.

I haven’t read the comics but it’s known by everyone The MCU Tony is almost a very different character from its counterpart in the comics.

His personality totally different, in the comics there is not just one single love interest for him. Pepper marries happy.

You know I’ve been wondering what if Marvel Gave Tony a different love interest in the films, maybe instead of Pepper Natasha who instead of hating him does give in with his first advances.
He flirted a bit with her in IronMan 2 so what if she became his love interest right at that moment they met.
Natasha is also really strong and kind of knows how to put Tony in his place too like Pepper. She could have been a good love interest for Tony.
