One of the "snapped" characters should have died

I think that would have added more sacrifice and tragedy. To see a character that was turned into dust for 5 years come back, and then sacrifice their life permanently to try and defeat Thanos. Even if it was more of a secondary character, like Mantis or Drax. Or Black Panther's general. Just would have been another powerful moment in my opinion

I was expecting Drax to die, especially following Dave Bautista's anti-Disney comments (pre-rehiring James Gunn). Plus, from a character perspective, his whole life's mission was to avenge his wife and children's deaths by killing Thanos.

James Gunn is back, so I guess Dave is on good terms with Disney again. Drax is hilarious so I'm glad he didn't die.

I love Drax too. He is hilarious. But we all have to die, even Marvel Superheroes. If he'd died taking out Thanos, he'd have died going out the way he wanted to go.

But then Iron Man wouldn't get his heroic sacifice.

Director: So who's gonna die to defeat Thanos, Iron Man or Drax?
Producers: Are you INSANE???
Director: All right, all right... jeez! Iron Man it is.

I wasn't expecting Drax to die. The Russo Brothers I believe finished re-shoots like a few months before Gunn got fired and Bautista was threatening to quit. The movie had originally finished filming like January 2018, but they decided to do re-shoots either after Black Panther blew up at the box office and was more successful as planned, or maybe a week or two after Infinity War was released in theaters. They said the re-shoots wouldn't change Endgame drastically. They were pretty satisfied with the movie overall with the originally cut they had back in January 2018 and just wanted to re-shoot some scenes and maybe shoot some more scenes (probably why the movie is 3 hours). So Drax's fate was pretty much already decided before Gunn got fired and Bautista was threatening to quit. And by the looks of it, Drax was brought back when the dusted characters returned. But after seeing the final (theatrical) cut, they could've easily edited Drax out and left him dead if they really wanted to and if Bautista actually quit. He didn't do much in the actual movie. We see him once when all the dusted characters return, see him attacking a random "minion" during the battle, see him at the funeral, and then on Star-Lord's ship. Pretty easy to edit him out. I think he only has one line of dialogue too and that's to suggest to Star-Lord and Thor to use knives if they wanted to duel each other for the leader/captain role of the ship and the Guardians. But all that stuff could've been easily worked around and easily edited out if they wanted to keep Drax dead because of behind-the-scenes stuff with Bautista. But I'm pretty sure they were never going to kill off Drax anyway since The Russo Brothers said they were satisfied overall with the cut of the movie they had back when the movie originally finished filming/production back in January 2018. They just needed to tweak some scenes with re-shoots and maybe film more footage.

They should have killed off Falcon permanently

Fuck no, Drax is comedy gold. He is my favorite part of the GotG. And the fact that his part is usually pretty small keeps you from getting sick of him. I'm already tired of Star-Lord's constant goofiness, but I would be down for a triple serving of Drax

reply

Well, I’m glad this didn’t happen, especially not to Falcon (that’s right, a new Cap you detractors).

And secondary or not, the Guardians wouldn’t be the same without Drax.

reply

It didn't have to be Drax, I just used him as an example. They'd never do it to one of their lead characters but they could have killed one secondary character.
