Shield

***SPOILERS***

Not the organization but Captain America's.
I am perplexed it was given to Sam. I expected it to go to Bucky. They have that life long friendship and bond...and more importantly Bucky has powers, the hand to hand fighting ability, speed and power of a super hero. Sam doesn't. Without his flying wing jet pack he is just a guy. What can he do with the shield?

reply

In the comics Sam Wilson become Captain America so it was obvious that he was going to be given the shield

reply

Well I speak as someone who has never seen a Captain America comic ever and I have zero knowledge or expectation of what happened in the comics.

If comic Sam has no powers I still think the same thing. What is he going to do without the super reflexes, speed and strength?

reply

The shield and title are more than the character's abilities.

Sam is a war hero driven to help people. He's a better fit for the mantle of "Captain America" than Bucky, a formerly brainwashed assassin who's clearly worn out and happier as a Wakandan farmer.

reply

So he is a poster boy....just one who can't actually fight enemies...just like Cap was while doing his stateside tour pretending to fight Hitler in all those war bond raising plays and promos.

He is just a symbol now...one that can't fight or throw the shield at anyone with enough velocity to do anything nor have it ricochet back to him.

He is just some guy dressed like Captain America.

He'd be better off to keep flying his jet pack.

Give Hawkeye the hammer, maybe he can be the new Thor.

Slap a spider logo on Ant Man, he can be the new Spiderman.
Paint Happy Hogan green, he is the new Hulk....since no one actually needs the powers to go along with it.

reply

Well how did the comics handle it?

Seems to me he'd be able to figure out a way to carry the shield in flight, and even use his flight momentum to give it speed as an attack weapon

No way he'd be able to ricochet it around like Steve, but he'd find his own solutions

reply

Bucky was the closer friend but Cap understands how shaky Bucky's past was whereas Sam has more of a clean record which the role of Captain America kinda needs. But honestly I would like to see Sam and Bucky share the role.
