RDJ as Tony/ Ironman

I remember when they first casted RDJ as Ironman, I thought it was a horrible choice. But after watching him in the role for over 10 years, I think he did an absolute wonderful job. Plus it’s perfect how the role put RDJ back as a prominent, bankable actor. It was just a feel good story. I actually feel that RDJ and Tony Stark have more in common due to the fact the demons they had to overcome in their personal lives. I just wanted to say thanks for making my childhood come alive RDJ. And much success on your future endeavors!

There are definitely some parallels between RDJ and Stark in many ways.

Now when it comes to this cinematic universe, RDJ will certainly leave a great legacy behind. He’s arguably been the heart and soul of the MCU all these years. I believe Kevin Feige himself (the main man responsible for the MCU) said that this universe wouldn’t have worked - or at least be the same - without RDJ. And yeah, I don’t think they could have chosen a more perfect actor for the role of Tony Stark. He made a big impression from the very beginning. A real redemption story for him.

Yes RDJ has been the heart and soul of the MCU. I was sitting in the theater (when Tony passed away) fighting back tears because it felt like I lost a good friend.

reply

I felt the same. The audience I was with was completely silent when that happened.

And Tony’s last words being “I am Iron Man” just feels bittersweet.

reply

Yes it was epic. The theater I was in was a mix group from young to older people and everyone got really quiet when he died.

Let me add how much I loved Pepper’s reaction

She wasn’t whiny or pleading with him not to die

She knew it was over, and made it a point to tell him it was finally OK for him to rest ... and she meant it

That was the best send-off I could imagine for him

Natasha too, died knowing she’d bought life for her best friend and his family. I also thought they set it up nicely by showing how hard she’d been taking it all for the past five years

reply

Natasha death still kind of bothers me. She did sacrifice herself for the greater good, but she had no family at all. Yes the Avengers were her family, but it felt as though the only thing she lived for was her “work” and she never experienced much else.

MCU have him and Favreau 2 thank. Iron Man is a B hero in comix and they made him an a-lister surpassin both Spider-Man and cap

You are right. I grew up reading Ironman and so many different Marvel characters. Ironman definitely wasn’t considered an a lister hero until RDJ brought him to life. You can tell Robert did his research because he was spot on with his portrayal of Tony.
