This will be my last MCU movie...anyone else???

Getting kinda bored with superhero stuff. Especially MCU. There's been well over 20 mcu film, and at least 10 series.(three of which I haven't watched) Even if Downey and Evans had decided to each do another film I would still be disinterested. The only thing I may watch at this point is maybe a long overdo appearance by me Galactus. Other than that Im back to watching a bit more grounded stuff like action films. Scif/fant has been so done to death the last 10-20 years it's just not exciting anymore.

I agree about the movie market being saturated with Marvel superheroes, but "Scif/fant" has NOT been "so done to death", so don't exaggerate.

reply

Bullshit.....Star Wars,Star Trek and the myriad of sci-fi/fantasy on Netflix and every other cable station and download service.....in fact Hollywood is running out of places to film in some areas....big reason the Picard Show is being film north of paramiunt studios ...just too much content being made now and scif/fant is HUGE....and yes SATURATED.....

reply

OK, so you don't like Sci-fi or Fantasy. What would you like on TV instead?

reply

I have been watching more dramas lately and procedural shows and documentaries and surprisingly i have been watching nature shows. It's like being back in school. I'm learning stuff instead of watching the same stuff over and over again with different dressing.
I grew up with sci-fi. We had new stuff every year but never ever to this extent. It was fun to see how each subsequent show or movie would improve in story or effects. But now that effects have hit a creative ceiling (anything can be done now and it's all pretty much done the same way) and almost everything worthwhile has been done. Or done half a dozen times. (How many zombie sows are there right now...Four I think lol)

Don't get me wrong i don't hate sci-fi fantasy I'm just tired of It. Maybe you are young yet and have not experienced overload of anything yet. When I was younger I couldn't get enough of stuff like this. I was drunk on life so to speak. Once you get older you are kinda hung over on so many things in life. Movies and TV are one of those.

I'm 47 this September, so I'd say I'm old. I've certainly grown fed up of new Star Trek and Disney Star Wars, and went off new Doctor Who a few years ago, and whilst I will rewatch the older stuff, I think I'm done with the new generation of Feminist and SJW Sci-fi. I also don't watch much fantasy, but Game of Thrones is occupying my TV time at the moment, but after that's done and dusted, I doubt I will watch anything else.

reply

Yup...I'm in the same age group...weird because even doing stuff like video games has lost in appeal after my mid to late 30's....sucks but there it is...

As a soon to be herald I disagree with you and am puzzled by your stance. The strength and staying power for Marvel and the MCU are the characters. Marvel has done an excellent job of allowing fans to grow and care for both the characters and the actors that portray them by extension. The one character within the MCU that has been over-exposed is Tony Stark. Much like the X-men's Wolverine they have overly dominated the Long-Form story telling at the expense of other characters. I would love to see additional stories of Captain America during WWII and more solo features.

Thor's realm was destroyed and along with that a host of stories that should have been a universe unto itself. Thor's solo movies were diluted by bringing him to Midgard for his 1st two films. There are so many grounded stories that can be told about other-worldly characters and Stan Lee and Jack Kirby were able to do that in print canon.

The key to the rise of Marvel's success in print form was Superheroes with every day normal problems. In fact today's action movies are nothing more than Superhero movies with extraordinary humans.

The continued investment in fan favorite characters without over saturating theaters is the strength of the MCU. The MCU is indeed trying to pivot to new characters and I for one remain excited. I do want to see the Fantastic Four, SS, The Knights of Wundagor with the High Evolutionary, Galactus, Kree-Skrull war, Secret Invasion, a proper (high stakes) SHIELD movie, AIM (Advanced Idea Mechanics), Captain America facing off against the awakened Red Skull "Sleepers" powered with Tesseract technology, there are so many many stories, characters and new characters to explore.

I get that...but unless they recast Captain American he will no longer be in the MCU. Same with Iron Man. As I said if i show up on screen i will be watching ....

Did you mean they, being Cap and Tony, show up on screen?

I could understand that. I will be less than enthused about replacing Evans and Downey and another actor taking over the role but I won't stop watching. I just can't quit them!!! Seriously though, I'd be intrigued with how the story arc goes for these new actors. Kind of like a band replacing a lead singer but the music stays the same or maybe even gets better.

I trust Marvel.

No I was talking about myself showing up....my big purple ass will be first in line...

reply

Oooooooooooooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! I forgot when you went in and out of character!! As a herald to be won't I have to scout that out first for you?

reply

If you want. I will not stop you.....I need a barrel full of popcorn as well....

reply

I get it, but I'll still continue to watch. I enjoy a handful of the other heroes that have been introduced that will more than likely be getting sequels like Doctor Strange so I'm not even close to being tired of it. Especially with the overall quality. Personally, I haven't been completely let down by Marvel Studios yet.

I enjoy movies enough to make time for superhero films as well as all other types of films.

reply

Yes.

I have no interest in Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, Captain Marvel, Black Panther and Ant-Man ... those characters and the respective solo films were really bland and boring.

I didnt like the second Guardians of the Galaxy film, so I’m not excited about James Gunn’s third film.

I have no interest in Black Widow.

To be honest, I’m only keen on seeing what Sony does with the Spiderverse and Venom.

reply

I was thoroughly entertained with Venom, but I'm surprised you enjoyed it better than any of the solo films for the heroes you mentioned. Doctor Strange especially was more of a fresh take on superheroes with the mind bending aspects and the final battle which was definitely a lot different than the hero fighting an enemy with the exact same abilities.

reply

No, there's "Doctor Strange 2" at least, I'm up for more as long as they maintain the quality.
