It was a fun film, I enjoyed it enough however do I feel the success of the film represent the quality of the film? Not at all? It does not feel like a film that should be in the billion dollar club, I feel it's one of the most underwhelming Marvel entry. Again NOT that is a bad film but it did more business than other Marvel films that were actually better in every way. My theory for the fact this is in the billion dollar club is because it is required viewing in order to watch "End game" as Carol Denver will be heavily featured on that one. I spoke to a lot of people who was not looking that forward to the film but forced themselves to go because it was needed to get some background before "endgame" and also most of them felt it was a meh movie as well.
I think it’s the combination of fake outrage from idiots who whine about Brie and being the lead-in to Endgame as you mentioned. People want to know what all the hub bub is about which led to it getting 1 bil.
It wasn’t bad but is one of Marvel’s weakest films. Coming off the heels of Infinity War and Black Panther, it seems really bland.
The marvel success beyond just making good to great movies is that each movie is part of a greater whole. Think of when you watch a tv show that you are dedicated too. You WANT to see the next episode as soon as you can but, you have to wait.
Put said show in a movie format and im sure you would pay 10 to 15 dollars to see the next episode. Marvel took a tv model and applied it to the big screen. And they hit it out of the park.
The fact that more or less every movie is connected is what drives fans to pay to see every movie. Your favorite show can have a dud of an episode but still have the highest ratings.
What marvel has done is unheard of. They can put out no name characters and still make a killing. Who knew of Captain Marvel, Antman, Guardians, Dr. Strange, Thanos, Loki, etc. These characters are now house hold names.
Loki was a household name for centuries in Scandinavia before Marvel decided to make comic book characters out of that mythology (and messing with its canon). But I get what you're saying...
Personally, neither Marvel nor DC can make me care about comic book characters I already don't care about (like Captain America, Captain Marvel etc.)
