I'm more excited about Shazam! than this
It being female led isn't the problem it's the way she is currently written in the comic book and a little how she is drawn too.

shareWell, the comic version won’t affect the film version. That I am sure of. The MCU tends do to things differently from the comics and most of the time it works out for the best. Either way, to each his own (Shazam looks decent but nothing particularly extraordinary). Carol Danvers all the way!
shareit does influence it
shareOf course.
But whatever problems you feel the comic version currently has, I doubt this will negatively impact MCU Captain Marvel. (Different writers and different direction.) While not an impossibility, for me it’s hard to imagine Marvel Studios failing to succeed with a major character in her debut movie.
...makes sense...?
shareProbably will go see it but not really getting excited over either of them.
shareThe Shazam trailer looked good.
Brie looks bored in the trailer.
Bet: Brie is playing the role exactly like she’s supposed to. A crime!
share"Shazam!" looks interesting but that's because I love Zachary Levi ever since he starred in NBC's "Chuck" (2007 - 2012).
I'd rather watch "Kazaam" (1996), lol.
I would've been as well....until I saw the trailers. While Captain Marvel seems....pedestrian as a trailer, Shazam! looks childish.
shareWell...there is definitely the sense that DC Films is hot right now and on the ascendancy and Marvel is last years news.
We'll have to see how this all turns out. There seems to be a lot of ambivalence towards Captain Marvel amongst Marvel fans than I've noticed from previous origin films and DC fans seem beyond stoked for their upcoming slate.
Once again, the problem for Disney is that this is yet another 200 million dollar production so they have to hit it out of the park.
