I image if WW flops then this might get cancelled.

Well, "Wonder Woman" was a huge hit, and proved that a movie starring a female superhero could find wide appeal and make a lot of money.

Any thoughts on that now, nay-saying fanboys?

reply

Why do you think that? The worst Marvel has done so far has been Thor and that didn't even flop.

reply

[deleted]

Haha I tend to block out the memory of those movies distributed by Fox. You're right. I guess what I'm getting at is that Marvel movies have done fairly well the past few years. I'm curious as to why you think Captain Marvel will fail?

reply

Captain Marvel is a bit more obscure superhero character than Thor. But yet again, even Ant-Man didn't fail.

reply

[deleted]

you seem to be forgetting uma thurman's turn as a female superhero,
she hit it out of the ballpark

My Super Ex-Girlfriend? Hahahhahaaa

Hehehehe.
I have no expectations whatsoever.
There isn't even a nothing trailer yet.
Frankly this whole discussion topic is waaaayy too early.

reply

Or Charlize Theron in Hancock. Pretty bad movie though.

reply

[deleted]

LOOOOOOOOOOOOL.

reply

I liked the first hour of Hancock. Then it kind of lost direction.

reply

I seriously doubt Serena Williams acting capabilities.

Cast a tennis player as the lead of your multi million dollar production. This is hilarious and I've seen him suggest it multiple times around the boards. Hilarious. Every time. Wonder Woman will most likely be D.C. Strongest film since dark knight. She was easily the brightest spot of BVS. My wife who hates comic movies and has seen none ever is going to see Wonder Woman. Every Kim kardashian watcher is reading about gal gadot in their magazines about beauty. Every day. This Serena Williams thing is so funny to read.

reply

[deleted]

Ok well you seem all in on this Wonder Woman movie tanking. I still find your idea of a butch Wonder Woman hilarious. So does Jason lee

reply

[deleted]

i take issue with you calling jason lee a movie star, he is much more a TV star than anything else,

& you forgot fred williamson, arguably the best ex-football player actor,
& vinnie jones.....maybe you should make a full list, otherwise you will continue snubbing entertaining actors

They cast a model to be Wonder Woman, and they aren't known for being so bright.

LOL, you thought Gal Gadot was just a model. Two years in the IDF training other soldiers... Obviously you had no clue why she was chosen for the role, huh?

reply

She trained no one. Everyone in Israel has to join the military. You should think about joining, it might smack some sense into your head and give you a reality check.

Gal was modeling while she was a Secretary in the IDF. She was picked to be Wonder Woman because she was a successful swimsuit and lingerie model and happen to resemble Wonder Woman.

You're Bi, right? You'll enjoy these, unless you are jealous and hate women and Gal Gadot.

http://wallpapersmirror.blogspot.com/2015/05/gal-gadot-hot-hd-wallpapers-latest.html

Gal would have made a pretty hot secretary...makes me think of the Maggie Gyllenhaal film, "Secretary." I think it was based on Gal Gadot's experience in the military.

reply

"Also, it's mostly males that buy Superhero related media, and the most successful series and brands have been male driven...and continue to be. That's just simple economics."

Well, if anyone's going to break that trend, it'll be Marvel. The Marvel brand sells tickets, and I believe it sells them to all ages, sexes, races, and nationalities. The hardest hardcore fans may be male (and white and straight), but IMHO the Marvel brand has enough widespread appeal that they don't need to cater solely to the hardcore fans.

Star Wars has proved that it can be done; they're featuring female heroes and characters of all colors and nationalities, and the worldwide mainstream has bought billions in tickets and for all their complaining - so have the hardcore white straight fans.

reply

[deleted]

With all due respect, I believe they bought the tickets because of the Star Wars brand and built in fan base, not the gender of the lead actors.

Keep it up with the "straight white male" racism though. It's funny. I love listening to people call everyone else out for being racist while they literally generalize an entire race themselves. Classic stuff.

reply

Yes, dear, saying that an entertainment corporation doesn't need to cater to the white straight male demographic to make a profit is obviously inflamatory, offensive, and racist.

Did you even read what I wrote?

reply

Yep. I read what you wrote. Racism is singling out a group of people based on the color of their skin, which you did. I'm not spineless though like most of society, it's no big deal.

Marketers also call this demographics, which is fine with me as well. I just don't like when people seem to get too high up on their horse and criticize everyone else's opinion because it's different. Not every straight white male is mad about female leads in movies. Some are, granted, but some aren't as well.

Also, I find it hilarious that to make your point, you use a film like Star Wars as why people are accepting of female leads...it's Star Wars, it would make a billion dollars if a black female gay midget in a wheelchair was the lead actor.

Have a nice day.

reply

Ah, but a black female gay midget would never be cast, unless Disney was sure that the Chinese market liked black female gay midgets!

That's the demographic they're all trying to pander to these days.

reply

You can't NOT like a black female gay midget...and don't forget the wheelchair...because then you'd be a racist sexist homophobic height supremacist who hates the disabled, lol.

reply

Yeah but Fantastic four was Fox and the second Spider-Man reboots are Sony. the MCU has not had a flop yet even if Thor 2 was a weak movie it still made a ton of money.

reply

I believe The Incredible Hulk was a flop.

reply

[deleted]

And yet they both made money. Additionally "Ancillary income" don't hurt superheroes that are male and the Hulk still sells as evidenced by his resurgence in Marvel's The Avenger.

So far there have been few Female characters that have also sold in the merchandise market place but in the past two years WB has branched out into that space and introduced a substantial number of products around their Female Hero characters to girls and it is paying off. I don't even mean just the "Bad" but sexualized female characters (Harley, Cat-Woman, etc).

Captain Marvel will deliver based on the strength of a compelling story. Marvel/Disney is in a great position to achieve the synergy required to pull this off.

Would have been better with Katheryn Winnick, but I suppose they wouldn't want to cast a woman her age, despite she would be perfect. Winnick also have the exact body type of Captain marvel, she just totally looks like her, unlike Larson. I guess she may be too short and maybe looks too much like Scarlett Johansson (but unlike her, she is athletic, and she's also much taller, despite being slightly shorter than Larson) so it could've confused some people or something?

reply

[deleted]

She is on the TV show Vikings, and someone on some other forum suggested her as Captain Marvel, so I looked at some CM pictures (I don't know the character) and she just looked like her a lot. Katheryn Winnick is only half an inch shorter, but she looks sorta shortish maybe because she is with some very tall actors in Vikings? She is a martial artist and used to do stunt work!

ps she would be an even more perfect fit for the "Black Canary", according to some people, but that's another character I haven't heard of.

reply

Yeah, see I don't think she's all that great. Until Kong: Skull Island, I'd never even heard of her and she played a so-so character in the movie. I've heard she won an Oscar but I'm wondering for what. Not for a movie I've seen.

I have faith in Marvel though, certainly with Feige at the helm. Let's just hope they aren't making this movie to appease some small segment of the viewing public who want to squabble about PC optics. That would be a bad move.

reply

Black Widow's movie will be better.

Scarlett > Larson

reply

I find Scarlett to be extremely sexy ... but she is bland as Widow. Hers is the worst cast role in the MCU. Lifeless and dull. Looks great though if that's all you want from Black Widow.
I reserve judgement on Brie until we taste the pudding. I admit to being worried.
