I would've said screw you, stupid alien Devils.

I mean honestly, who the hell do they think they are?

Actually they don't think much of themselves at all. That much was abundantly evident in what Karellen said in the last episode. They are a doomed race. Doomed never to make the evolutionary jump because of their on-going service to the Overmind. The sadness Karellen felt in carrying out his "duty" was especially clear in the last minutes of the last episode.

The book presents them a lot better, as well as the Overmind. In the book, humanity's evolution is more of given already underway, whereas the miniseries makes it look a lot more like the Overseers' intervention and meddling.

Yeah I haven't read this particular book. In the series, it's presented like this:

Earth is doing its thing in 2016. Sure, we might have our faults, but we're making due. We have our faults, but even the alien said we're on the verge of interstellar travel, we've got ice cream, rock music, porn, the whole nine yards.

These devil looking aliens come down and say "hey yo'. Interstellar travel isn't for you. We have it, but what's good for the goose isn't good for the gander."

F••• you, hellboy.

Basically, they accelerated our evolution, gave us immortality for a couple of years, only to turn all of the children into telekinetic pod people, siphon all of the energy from the planet, KILL EVERYONE, and then blow up the planet. Just for the f••• of it.

Who's to say that we don't get our sh•• together? Sure, I hate humanity, and I could do without a lot of the bullsh•• we cause, but more or less we're on the path. We're certainly not going to do ourselves in in the next 30 or so years.

I say f••• those aliens.

We'll take our chances, not for nothing.

ever get that GED?

My guess is a no.

The overlords did no such thing as you suggested. They merely allowed humans to live as close to a utopia-like existence in order to welcome the evolution of mankind with an easier transition. They did not force the evolution, it was going to happen with or without them.

Without them, as the children began to manifest powers, all hell would have broken lose. Imagine more of this... 35 year old... retired Command Sgt Major (which blew my mind, he was 35... the arrival happened roughly 24 years prior... that actor was way too young to have been a Command Sgt Major during the arrival)

Throughout the world, possible destroying mankind before we could reach the evolution catalyst.

The overlords were sent by the overmind to ensure that didn't happen.

reply

It's humans that wasted the nearly utopian conditions they were given. The Overlords didn't make any real impositions on the culture beyond "no violence" and "everyone gets their basic needs met."
