All human life gone in 85 years
So all human life just vanished after Milo left. Mass suicide or did they all just die out. IDK if that makes a lot of sense and they didn't even brush over it.

shareActually there's nothing unusual about it at all. People stopped reproducing. In the book (as I recall) it was simply that they lost the will or desire to have children, they weren't rendered sterile.
If people stopped reproducing today the human race would almost certainly be gone by 2100, 84 years from now. Yes, some people live longer, but without younger, healthier, stronger people to maintain services and society the human race would be gone in 84 years, the same amount of time that Milo was gone.
One thing I didn't understand:
Did pregnant women have their babies evaporate from their wombs?.. was it like that in the book as well?
And babies that were already born did they ascend and join Jennifer [who didn't age for 85 years?] at that "Devils Tower" in Africa? None were shown in the miniseries, not even as young as 3/4 ... all seem to be school age kids 5/6 age and up... and how old was the oldest 'kid' before/after puberty?
Also tend to think many parents would have rather killed their kids rather than let them be taken away.
Did the book cover exactly what happened on earth while Milo was on Jenjetta... and lost the will to have kids? ... as in they stopped having sex? No more:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2998272/combined all horned up by teen hormones.
The Jenjettans don't seem particularly bright if they've talked to OM for 100K years and don't realize they are pawns [and possibly being lied about ascending themselves] since they seem to be very long lived creatures if their planet's population aging around 40 years for every trip they take to earth is no big whoop. No change in government there I guess
The ideas of the book seem to suggest a more sheep like humanity that just rolls over and gives up... maybe they were like that in the 50's but today, meh.
Yes, they did. There was one, quick scene where the woman woke up in bed, grabbed at her belly and basically yelled "Where's my baby?!" when all the children were ascending.
shareYeah I remember the scene, but wondered how its covered in the book. I wonder why not allow those babies to be born since it they could ascend as well with Jennifer since they were going to hang out on earth for another 80 years or so.
At least Vindarten did confirm [to Milo on the ship to Jenjetta] that they did change humanity & the whole idea that this was evolution at work was bupkiss
