Anyone else concerned that

this wont be as funny as the trailer?
I love their skits but their skits are for the most part short bits of comedy. The trailer itself seemed like a pretty funny skit which I thought it was on first look. However I don't know if these two can carry a full blown movie so I have my doubts and reservations about it.

Anyone else with this thought process?

reply

Yeah, same thing. I love their show. Am reserved about the movie. Just seems like it would have been better plots for their first movie. A parody of a so-so action flick (John Wick)? I hope I'm wrong and it's really funny and successful.

Sig, you want a sig, here's a SIG-sauer!

reply

I hope it is funny and does well in theaters, but I will probably wait for it on DVD.

reply

i got tickets for a advanced screening tomorrow!
So yeah gotta love seeing stuff for free before the general public  

"Hope it does well in theaters"

"I'll wait till dvd"

That's really odd. Seems counter intuitive.

reply

I hope it does well in theaters but I'm not going to see it.
I'll wait for it on DVD so I can rent it or catch it at a friends.

I don't want to spend the money on a movie ticket as it would possibly be far more than renting it especially from some place like Redbox.

Or, I could just wait for it on Netflix and not pay a dime.

reply

Semantics, but you how do you get to watch things on Netflix without paying a dime? Did you manage to get a free subscription or something?

reply

I guess that would also be semantics. I'm not paying a dime for that specific movie. So I'm not contributing to the proceeds of it. I'm paying for the service itself.

reply

Do you think the money you give to Netflix just goes in their pockets and the movie studios just gives Netflix the movies for free?

reply

I'm aware of how it is dispersed, but me canceling my netflix subscription is not the same as refusing to support this movie. IF it one day makes it onto netflix I will possibly watch it, if not then oh well. I stand by my statement.

I did not wish to support it in theaters so I did not, but I had hoped it would do well on it's own merits. There is nothing wrong about that. It's like saying "I don't support your decision, but if you're going to do this I hope everything works out"

reply

This is exactly why IMDB is starting to becoming irrelevant. I generally like to hear what REAL people have to say about movies, music, TV, etc., not some N.Y. critic with a rod up his . . . back.

But O . . . M . . . G - SOME PEOPLE GO ON AND ON AND ON FOR PAGES, ARGUING ABOUT THE STUPIDEST, MOST RIDICULOUS THINGS! LOL!

WTF would he give a shot if you went to the theater or streamed it?? WTF would he care who collected what percentage of the box office? SMH . . . grumps need some serious Homie Intervention.https://youtu.be/pSDTmJtE-Bc

reply

lol Yeah people argue about some silly stuff on here. No joke about it.

It's worth going to see---funny, action packed to the hilt, and everything else. Also an excellent leading lady who kicks major a**, too.

I listened to them on the Bill Simmons Podcast from earlier this week. They discussed John Wick and Peele said he was developing the script and had the idea prior to John Wick coming out. They even spoke to Keanu Reeves about the film and he loved it. I'm also hoping it's really funny and successful. They seem like good people so I hope for their continued success.

reply

If you thought John Wick was a so-so action movie you have bigger things to worry about.

reply

Fair point, that was a terrible, terrible film

reply

If John Wick is a "so-so action flick" to you then I need to know what your idea of a good action flick is.

I think it will be pretty funny. It's definitely in the style of Key and Peele's typical humor, which I really enjoy anyway.

It's funnier than the trailer.

I can concur with this - my husband and I saw it this afternoon and laughed the whole way through. Key + Peele work so well off each other, the action was exciting, the supporting characters were all so great, and Keanu was just adorable :)

I'm telling everyone - GO SEE IT!

reply

It is very funny. They managed to pull it off remarkably well. I surprised myself by rating it a 10. I just don't do that with new movies that often as that is a very high bar.

reply

It's fairly funny. There is a lack a focus at times in the film and it does seem like some scenes stretch on too long (as though they were an extra long sketch); but there's enough good parts to make it worth the ride and Key and Peele's chemistry keeps the movie on it's feet. It may not quite reach the heights of Hott Fuzz (my personal favorite comedic action homage); but it's a lot better than your average SNL movie or other forgettable films done by sketch comedy guys. All in all a good first effort.

reply

10? What kind of *beep* are you on? Holy *beep*
Ok, I lol'd some, too.

reply

It was funny, just go in not expecting a lot, and just enjoy the silliness of it all.

reply

Laughed all the way through! The rest of the audience did too. Really fun and never feels like it runs out of steam.

reply

It may not have been as funny but it fills the audience with a lot of good will. I enjoyed it a lot.

reply

Exactly. I love the way it gets where it's going with a very satisfying ending.

reply

I haven't laughed this hard at movie in a really long time. I personally thought the movie was way funnier than the trailer.

What a day! What a lovely day!

reply

For me the trailer wasn't funny and I was going to pass on the movie until my husband said he wanted to see it.
Good chuckles. They're funny guys. But not my favorite movie of the year.

reply

It was very funny, just what I expected I get their humor , it wasn't like a specific sketch stop comparing it to the show that's the problem. People can't separate the show from the sketch !
The Mack is back

You don't know me, so my opinion isn't very meaningful, but my companion & I found it hysterical from start to finish. I'm encouraging those who I know would get the cultural references to go. It does make a lot of references that might fall flat if you didn't understand them. If you don't know George Michaels, wham/ Andrew ridgely, some of the funniest stuff would be lost.

reply

It's a thread open for discussion. If I know or not that doesn't matter, I'm asking for opinions, and happy to hear/read yours. I'll still watch it but not in theaters as for those reference I'm aware of who the ones you listed are. Granted they are before my time I just liked that kind of music growing up. Especially wake me up (before you go go). Still can't get enough of that.

Thank you for your input. :)
