I thought it was wonderful - SPOILERS

Beautiful performances, especially from Streep and Grant. The film did that wonderfully rare thing of making me laugh and cry at the same time. Meryl Steep embodied the passion that Jenkins had for opera while giving hilariously bad renditions. I thought Hugh Grant was superb as her husband who could have easily come across as a sordid gold digger, but was instead touchingly loyal to his wife. The tragedy of what happened to Florence at 18 was utterly shocking. Simon Helberg was also very good.

I remember seeing a version of this story on stage years ago. I think it was called "Glorious" and starred Maureen Lipman.
