In 2015, "Marguerite" is the exact same movie. It's French, starring Catherine Frot who just won the César Award for Best Actress.

shareYes i was just thinking that. Marguerita is released on the 18th March in the UK
shareI saw Marguerite in a preview screening last week. It's excellent and will probably be judged to be a better film. It is not a comedy and the title character is considerably more sympathetic than I suspect FFJ will be shown as.

Thanks for this info. I want to see this. Not sure if it'll get released where I am though...
shareI was blown away by Catherine Flot's performance. Marguerite had a really SAD touch to the character in the film which made the film more watchable.
I wonder if FFJ would be that sad.
Have you seen the trailer? It has a completely different feel.

But this is based on the REAL person, whereas 'Marguerite' was adapted into a French setting.
shareI really want to see both of these films.

I've seen both.
FFJ is a 'faithful' adaptation based on the actual story (liberties of course are taken as with the case of any 'based on a true story' film). It's given a broad comic treatment with tragic undertones.
Marguriette is very faithful to the character but transports the story to 1920's France. It's more of a drama with comic moments and the conclusion of the films are totally different.
They are both worth seeing. I do feel Frot has the upper hand as the material is handled more dramatically.
Thanks you for your informative post. I will be seeing them both. :)
