she had a terrible singing voice
of course not unlike every popular pop music singer today
shareIn her mind, Florence Foster Jenkins was a coloratura soprano. Tallulah Bankhead had to be carried out of one of Florence Foster Jenkins' performances because she was laughing so hard. People actually went to Florence Foster Jenkins performances to laugh at her. Of course, she thought the audience members were enjoying themselves immensely and/or appreciating her performance.
I cannot wait to see this movie.
If FFJ wasn't surrounded by sycophants, she might have used her voice for comic relief, rather than think she was an operatic dynamo.
shareUnfortunately she is like most Americans who appear on talent shows. Deluded fools...
shareShe was actually loved by her friends, who shielded her from the more unkind. Unfortunately it eventually became a emperor's new clothes things.
She used to have salon parties for only her dearest friends where she would sing. They were kind to her. Hence her eventual concert for a larger and less kind audience.
While her voice was, less than stellar, I think she had an absolute flair for costume. If she had channeled her talent and energy into fashion rather than opera, I think she would have had a much more flattering legacy.
BTW I own one of her CDs.
I'd say most. A few aren't bad.
What's missing in movies is same as in society: a good sense of work ethic and living up to ideals.
