I'll be very disapointed if...

...Streep won't get nominated for this one. Yes, again, and again, and again. She should have also been nominated for "Ricki and the Flash". The woman is a legend, she can play ANYTHING.

Frankly, Ricki and the Flash wasn't very good, IMO, but I think she'll be fantastic in this. Looking forward to it, and because of Hugh Grant too!

Are you saying that her performance in "Ricki" wasn't good? I'm saying that SHE should be nominated, not the movie.

reply

The movie in general. The script was just ok.

It seems Meryl Streep and Dame Judi Dench get nominated for just showing their little finger in a film. They are fabulous actors and deserve to be nominated for nearly all the films they appear in. They seem to elevate the material, even when given something mediocre to work with. They might not win, but their being nominated, shows that their peers hold them in high esteem. I just hope that Dame Judi Dench's bilateral macula degeneration (one eye has the "wet" kind, the other has the "dry" kind) doesn't progress, and she keeps acting. She has someone read her lines (as well as the entire script to her), and that is how she learns her lines. With macula degeneration, the person loses their central field of vision- the area needed to read and see faces. It is amazing that she has been able to act as long as she has. I hope Ms. Streep goes on as long, if not longer, than Judi. I love them both.

She will probably be nominated. There was a special screening of the movie, for critics and or journalists I think, and there is Oscar buzz created before the official release. There wasn't too much talk about Ricki and the flash last year. Plus it's a Frears movie. His most recent films have all been nominated in multiple categories - Best Picture and Best Actress stand out.
