shareI think it was a mixed bag, an awkward combination of humor and pathos. The melodramatic beginning and ending of this film worked better for me than the very lengthy midsection, where Florence is inexplicably clueless that she is humiliating herself. I think it would have worked better with more drama and less comedy, and perhaps a bit more development of Florence's character beyond the singing. 7/10 stars from me based on strong performances and direction.
shareIt easily glides through its two hours. Very enjoyable! Far more entertaining than the other films I've seen in the theater in the last two weeks.
shareIt was quite well done, and surprisingly accurate as to the basic facts around Jenkins' life.
Meryl Streep was, as usually, wonderful. Not only is she a great actress, she's one of the few you have the ability to actually 'become' the character she's playing.
For example, when you see Julia Roberts in a movie, you're always aware that it's Julia Roberts playing a role. Not so, with Streep, and more power to her.
