shareWilliam Hung was a guy who auditioned for American Idol. He was awful. But somehow, drew a crowd. All in all he made over a million dollars or so doing performances.
Florence was the same, terrible, but drew a crowd. She was laughed at, but still drew a crowd.

We had a similar guy in my country, he was a terrible singer but people would still go to his performances.

shareThe real life Florence Foster Jenkins was a caricature. It'll be interesting to see how they portray her.
Every time our local NPR station had a fund drive (back in the days when fine arts radio actually played classical music), someone would invariably make a pledge and request Florence Foster Jenkins.
Jenkins was a tragically flawed woman, and Streep should be up to the task - provided they give her a decent script.
Meanwhile, there's a French film about Jenkins, titled simply, Marguerite. It came out last year, but I have yet to see it.

I'm excited about this film too. I've seen a play about Flo, and have a CD of her recordings (can't really listen for very long). What a story -- a colorful part of the rich pageant of human life.

If you search for her on Amazon, there is at least on of her albums with previews. People don't believe how terrible she was. The recordings prove it.
shareJust saw it. The theme is courage. Yes, courage. Florence didn't have the talent but she had the courage to sing in front of people.
