Did I miss it. Or was is glossed over like her fear of knives that was never expanded on.

It was her will. At the last concert in Carnegie Hall - Cosme McMoon paid her a nice compliment and she took it out and added a gift to him.

I didn't get the problem with the knife.

You mean the little devil who stands on your shoulder encouraging you to do or say bad things? I am very familiar with him. He lives there - especially since I have been trying not to reply to political posts on facebook.

I didn't get the problem with the knife.

I think it had to do with the injury that ended her piano career.

it wasn't an injury, she had syphilis

She also had an injury in addition to the syphilis. She says it was the syphillis earlier so that confused the issue. Perhaps she was lying? In real life she was a top pianist who turned to singing when she could'nt play anymore.
