Even Funnier
if you're a musician. I laughed so hard I cried. Twice. Much better film than I thought it would be.

shareI agree. Meryl Streep really showed a musical background because it is difficult to sing that badly, after receiving the training to sing correctly. What was really interesting was her dying scene, as dramatic as any operatic climax. She sang perfectly in tune in the dream sequence. I've heard her sing in other films, but this one was a hoot. The pathos of her life: marrying at 18 to a degenerate who gave her VD on her honeymoon, fighting for almost 50 years not to be destroyed or go mad from the untreated VD, showed that money can't always buy happiness.
Did Simon Helberg do the piano playing? The two handed Chopin in his apartment was tender and showed that music was as close as she would get to her life's longings.
I enjoyed the film, even with the historical inaccuracies.
indeed. the duet of Chopin was symbolic...sexuality.
trivia section claims that M.S. did her own singing, and S. H. actually played the pianny.
