It was reversed.

In the film, St. Clair Bayfield told Cosme McMoon, that Foster Jenkins was his wife and Kathleen was his girlfriend, but actually it was the other way around. In the scene when Foster Jenkins is banging on his door with McMoon there, I thought it was odd that her husband was at an apartment when he should have been at home, and it didn't seem very strange to her either, she was wondering what McMoon was doing there.

Fact check. You're in error. A simple Google will address this for you.

I got this information about Bayfield from Wikipedia, where it clearly states that he was not married to Foster Jenkins, but to Kathleen (the mistress in the movie).

He married Kathleen after Florence's death.
