Hugh Grant
He's looking old. Yes I understand that it maybe make up some too, but my gosh he looks OLD in this movie.

shareagreed
shareHow dare he age!!!
shareHe looks old because he's in his mid 50s. It's not rocket science.
Yes, he looks older. He is 55 years old after all.
But aside from the fact that he looks older than he did 20 years ago (which by the way we all do!), his performance was terrific!
Honestly, it was difficult part. So many of of the most effective scenes were his reaction shots. It would have been easy to make him into a certain "type"-- -the younger hustler with the older woman. But he was clearly devoted to and had great affection for FFJ. It was very touching. I imagine in the beginning, it was all about money, but you could see he truly cared about her happiness and well-being.

I wasn't saying he was bad in the movie. I actually liked him in it. I was just stating that he is just looking older. And yes, people look older than they did 20 years ago. I know everyone ages and yes he's in his 50's. Some age better than others. Truth it's been a while since I've seen a movie with him in it, and was just STATING that he's looking more this age than I'd noticed before.
shareIt was not difficult to notice that Hugh has aged. There were numerous close-ups that showed all the aging wrinkles on his face. Even Meryl showed wrinkles in her close-ups, but she also had a lot more make-up on for her scenes. Nothing wrong with wrinkles. Nothing wrong with aging. It's a fact of life. It was still a go performance by the former Edward Ferris of "Sense and Sensibility."
shareI completely agree with your thoughts on his performance. My favorite scene was the impromptu dance scene. That was fun, and he's a good dancer.
Yes the dance scene (were they doing the Lindy?) was terrific. Love the exuberance! And he was a great dancer! IS he not adorable? See the link: https://youtu.be/JFqJJeUevIs

He's always so funny in his interviews.
It was the Lindy Hop. The actress who danced with him liked it too.

I thought he was great in the movie, much better than Meryl Streep who seemed to be doing an SNL skit. But it's true he looked even older than her. Hugh obviously hasn't been nipped, tucked, botoxed or fillered - unlike Meryl where it was obvious in close-ups she had a surprising lack of wrinkles!
shareI was thinking how natural she looked actually saw plenty of wrinkles on her. Around the eyes especially. If she's had any work done it is subtly done.
And many people can have wrinkles around the eyes and the odd lines here and there but nothing on cheeks. Like Meryl Streep. You could see the wrinkles on the close ups.
My mother is in her eighties. And her cheeks are smooth as anything. There are wrinkles around eyes and mouth but she looks good and younger for her age
My grandmother was the same. Good genes I think. I hope I go the same way. I don't do a lot of sun either.
Yeah it's part of life. But I don't think he looked older than his real age. And make-up does accentuate wrinkles too. And they probably made him more gray.
I think he looked handsome though.
I would far rather see actors aging naturally and gracefully than these ones who over do the plastic surgery and botox where you can't even recognise them.
It's called aging, in his case gracefully.
