Am I the only one who hated this movie?

I mean, I didn't just dislike it. I hated it. It's absolutely terrible. The tone of this movie is all wrong. The Hugh Grant character's actions, while well meaning, is actually quite cruel and reprehensible. Shielding his wife from all criticism and ridicule and allowing her to believe she's good. He means well, but he's not helping her at all. That ending is really hard to watch. Yet, this is suppose to be a crowd pleaser. We are suppose to be cheering her on as she performs. Ugh. And on top of that, he's got this side romance going on with this other woman (a woefully underused Rebecca Ferguson) and is hiding it from his dying wife. It's not fair to his wife or to the other woman. None of this is inherently bad material. An interesting movie could have been made out of this. But the movie is not interested in delving into any of this. Instead we are suppose to sympathize with Grant and the movie wants us to root for him and his wife. Instead I was angry at Grant and pitied Streep. This movie is completely tone deaf. Not rousing or crowd pleasing at all. It's cringe inducing. Stephen Frears is talented filmmaker who has made some fine films. This is not one of them. It is an unmitigated disaster. The performances are good (although not award worthy IMO) but that's really all this has going for it. Not even Streep and Grant can save this movie. It's one of the worst movies of 2016 IMO. I can't believe I seem to be alone in thinking this. How come so many people like this movie? Please help me understand.

I actually fell asleep in it, it was so tedious. The first time she sings and we see their reactions is cute; but then it's just
a one-joke movie.

I liked it, but then I was already a fan of La Jenkins.
